I started to pull apart my right front 10” drum this evening. I pulled the adjuster out to confirm it wasn’t frozen. In doing so, I saw it was marked with an “L”. Am I correct in thinking the “L” means left hand thread and belongs on the right (passenger) side?
    Thank you,

When in doubt, the adjusters should tighten when "lifted" by the brake spoon. So the "star" should rotate up on the inside and down on the outside with the anchor side of the adjuster on the front brake shoe.

Typically the end of the adjuster marked L goes on the left side of the vehicle and R on the right side of the vehicle. The threads typically are left handed for the left side which is why the adjuster is marked L.

The "L" is for left hand thread and the "R" is for right hand thread. On the 10" brake system the "R" marked adjusters go on the front driver side and rear passenger side locations and the "L" marked adjusters go on the front passenger side and rear driver side locations.

    So which is it really?

It should be obvious if you look at the ratchet mechanism - it should operate to tighten the brake, but not the allow the opposite.

From the Service Manual--P-18 "Brake Shoe Installation" INSTALLING THE FRONT BRAKE SHOES
... The star adjusting wheels are stamped "R" and "L" indicating thread rotation. The left front brake adjusting screw has right hand thread rotation and the right front brake adjusting screw has left hand thread rotation. ---So, with that info. I read it as, left front gets "R" and the right front gets "L".

Thank you all for the replies.

I thought it was obvious, however, this brake wasn’t working. The wheel cylinder seemed to be moving freely, so I started to question the “L”. I may put a new cylinder in just to rule it out. Everything else is new.

Again, thank you all for the replies.
