Cj5 Bed Extension?

How do they mount to the tub?

 

There may have been more than one type. But they bolted to the chain eyes, and two struts went down to the draw bar. I believe the extensions had provision to hook into with the OEM hinge castings on the tub.

 

This is not on a CJ5--but it gives one attachment explanation.

I used to work on a CJ5 with the same extension pictured above in post #5. It was all one-piece bottom and sides, not bolted together with an angle as in the diagram(post#2).
Remove your tailgate.
Mount the extension to the Jeeps body mounted hinges. You have to angle it about 45 degrees to engage the extension in the hinge.
Swing it up square with the Jeep body and install bolts on the chain brackets.
Mount your tailgate onto the extension.
It takes about 2 minutes to install/remove the extensions. The one I used to work on didn’t have the diagonal support brackets to the draw bar or the spare tire bracket in the diagram in post #2.
