Factory Dauntless were equipped with 3 different versions of Delco Remy distributors prior to 1969.
After that they went to Prestolite distributors.

    DR #1110322 1965-1966 BC
    DR #1110342 1966-1967 2G
    DR #1110376 1967-1968
    PL #IAT 4502 A 1969-1971

Know that all ignition components are relative to the distributor being used.
But for now I am only addressing the proper “coil” that’s used with the standard components.

All original Delco Remy systems used DR coil #1115202 or #1115247
All original Prestolite systems used PL coil #201700

And yes the DR and PL external ballast coils have significantly different specifications.
To the best of my knowledge both DR coils should test:
    Primary resistance 1.28-1.42 ohms
    Secondary resistance 7200-9500 ohms

    The Prestolite coil should test;
    Primary resistance 4.25-4.60 ohms
    Secondary resistance 5200-6100 ohms.

I always liked Standard Motor Products (SMP) Blue Streak lineup.
So I found a couple of used Blue Streak coils locally for cheap and plan to give them a try. [IMG]

The Blue Streak UD-12X is an external ballast coil.
I tested both and came up with:
Primary resistance of 1.1 ohms on both coils
Secondary resistance 9900 ohms on one and the other at 10,500 ohms.
So they are way outta spec for the PL distributor and fairly close for the DR distributors. Kinda wondering how that’s going to go.

Anyone else bother testing all of there individual ignition components to be sure they are within the standard specification ?
If so what coils are you all using and what kinda numbers are you getting ?

I also test all my condensers and all my ballast resistors. More on that later if anyone’s interested.

Good info. May be insight to my one 225 not running shortly after the PO tuned it up. Wrong coil cooked some other component?????

I, for one, am interested in follow up info but, no, I haven't tested components like you do. Mostly because I'm a dummy and don't how to test some of it, like the condenser. But I might have to learn.
