those new fangled inverted springs are pretty cool too..
Looks like someone cut the C shackles in half and welded in some tube to extend them
first picture looked like someone was selling a toy model
yep front shackles
There’s a photo that shows close-up there is only a small tack of weld holding the extension sleeve to the cut shackle. Another photo shows overload coils on the rear axle.
Yikes, there is so much wrong with this thing. No rubber between the tub and frame? The rear coils are missing the top mount, horn button missing and fenders not bolted on all the way. I guess a coat of OD paint makes it what it ain't! Some sorry person will buy this, I'm sure.
That was a pretty popular conversion in the 70's. There were at least 3 in my Parent's Jeep Club back then.
I've heard that it was popular and obviously must have been considered a good choice. Seems almost comical these days though.
I guess all of the things wrong with the Jeep though are more comical yet.
Popular enough that Novak has a kit/guide:
That engine was available in the 80's in turbo form. Friend had a anniversary edition '84 1/2 Mustang convertible with a turbo 4 and it was a fun ride. There was also the SVO Mustang with the 4 cyl...
Yeah, despite their well publicized faults, Pintos had decent little engines, both the 2.0 and 2.3 . They make good engine swaps for a CJ.
Had a professor in college engine building who raced formula 2000 with a pinto engine, said they were underrated!
Almost bought an MB with a pinto swap too, common old school swap
My dad's VW sandrail has a Pinto engine. It has some good power.
In college the library had an engine building book for the lima motors and another from the day that covered Baja mods for the carb.
I was between the 2.3 and a 4.3 for mine. 4.3 won based on towing intentions.
They really pep up an old jeep they rev crazy
From the ad-
"Oh, and did I mention that our consignor states that this rig once belonged to the former Secretary of State of Michigan, Richard Austin?"
Does anyone really care about this??
Talk about a brush with fame! Makes me want to bid. Or hit the BIN.
I have a fresh (dyno time only) ‘86 SVO turbo/intercooled 2300 in the garage. With a chipped ECU it made 238 hp. These OHC 2300s were very good engines for CJ swaps.
The Novak guide says this engine is adapted only to the T90. Can that transmission handle 238 hp?
