Yep, forgot to mention that one.
The bolt is in a rubber cushion, the whole bracket bolts the frame with 2 smaller bolts.

thank you for that. That makes me feel a little less embarrassed.

I sprayed the heck out of it with pb blaster so I’m going to let it sit for a bit to let it do it’s magic in hopes I don’t have to cut it off.

Turns out that bolt wasn’t tight anyway which explains the big vibration I had at low rpms. Looks like I’m going to get to fix all sorts of things through this process that needed attention.

Here are a few pics so far.

Take a look at the clutch fork. Not sure if that’s salvageable. I’m sure that was contributing to the screeching.

I think you can get the arm/fork, NP. Everything needs to be replaced.

Surprising that the arm can contact the clutch cover, ever. Possible mismatched parts? Collapsed clutch cover? Broken/worn release bearing or sleeve?

Maybe the throw-out bearing is too short.

Here’s a pic of the gears. Do you all see anything to be concerned about here?

I see some pitting on 1st and a smaller amount on R. Probably a little noisier than it could be in 1st, but not an issue otherwise. No broken gears in this view. I would turn the gears and look for broken teeth - probably none. It's in 2nd now. I would shift it into 3rd and inspect the teeth that mesh with the blocking ring teeth. 2nd gets the most wear IME, and bears closer inspection. Probably is ok if it did not clash on 3-2 downshift before, and isn't noisy.

I don’t see any broken or chipped teeth but I do see the pitting you mentioned.

here’s a pic of it in 3rd. I didn’t notice any broken teeth while rotating it in 3rd either.

Here’s a pic of the clutch fork and bearing fully engaged. Not sure what that melted plastic looking stuff is.

    That got REALLY warm------

I too think the transmission is fine. What does the throwout arm pivot look like?

    It did. It’s definitely shot.

here’s a pic of the front and back side of the fork. The actual pivot ball looks fine and the shaft doesn’t seem to be hurt.

Did this sit for a long time before you got it and started to drive it ? It sure looks like the input shaft is rusty or very crusty clean this up with a wire brush or wheel before you put it back together.

I’ve had it for about 3 years and I never had any issues with this until now. but it may have sat a while before I bought it. But it has a lot of goo on it which is one reason the fork movement was so sticky and sluggish.

Ya know, if it's the right fork and it were a rare part, you might reuse it. But I think it's a common part. Question is what caused the gouges.

Suggestion - how friendly are you with your local olde tyme auto parts store? Get the part numbers for what you need and ask them to order them. Then at the counter, compare what you have to what's nominally correct for your Jeep. Usually there is a different release bearing for the Borg&Beck clutch, vs. the diaphragm clutch you have now. Something was mixed up.

I’m pretty sure I can get them to order parts and let me compare them.
