    Hello, all.

This matter came up as I was "robbing Peter to pay Paul" on a couple of my jeeps. Coil failed on my current project so I decided to "borrow" one off a future project that has not been looked at in a few years and never actually run (by me). The coil had the typical bracket in the omega shape strap of metal. Sandwiched between the strap and the coil was a thin piece of rubber. On removing the coil from the bracket, the rubber seemed to be a home made section of bicycle inner tube. Question: Is there any reason this is not a good idea? Is it a sound idea? Thanks.

You would likely improve the coil cooling by a small amount omiting it. If the bracket will snug up without it-----

Was likely used as a spacer. Not all coils were the same diameter in the earlier years.
