I grease them when I take them off. No set interval. Probably about as often as you would repack the front wheel bearings. Can of Sta-Lube lithium grease and a flux brush.

A visual inspection of the grease viscosity/moisture content when you do a hub and spindle pack.

The biggest issue is not to let the grease get hard, which can cause the hub to stick when engaging. That being said, use a thin grease. Thick sticky greases will also keep the hub from working properly. And don't "pack" it. A thin layer on everything is enough.

Hubs have a torrington bearing/bushing in the body. Don't forget to put a finger full of grease on these as well.

Always remember to reassemble the hub properly and test it while the wheel is off the ground. My 71 has a funky "early" 29062 warn hub that has the springs running on pins. The pins go through holes in the body. You can assemble the hub with the pins misaligned but the hub won't engage. Don't be me and find out your stuff doesn't work out on the trail:shock:
