I have removed all the old shoes, springs, etc. and installed new. How do I know where to set the link spring before install drum? I understand I can adjust the shoe springs after the drum is on - just don't know where to set link spring.

I need to do this as well so I am also interested....went to at least connect it yesterday and there's no hole in the activator arm either so looks like I will have to drill one.

    Truckee,

Don't need to drill a hole in the activator arm. You are missing a piece that fits onto the clevis pin for the link. It is a tapered piece of flat metal with a small hole on the narrow end for the spring, and a 1/4" hole on the other to fit over the end of the pin.

I assume you're talking about the green spring in my picture?:

You're not really adjust thing spring as such, it's just there to keep things from rattling. What you are adjusting is the resting position of the cam when the brake is released. This determines how far that end of the shoes need to move before contacting the drum.

You want to adjust this and the star wheels so both ends of the shoes just clear the drum when the brake is released. It's a bit tedious to do in practice because you need to put the drum/yoke on and off. I got mine so it's fairly close but a little on the loose side.

The Parking brake handle has a decent amount of travel so this adjustment is not super critical. Neither of my Jeeps have had this link adjusted in years but the parking brakes adjusted up fine with the star wheels and adjusting the cable. They both work great. The one pictured hasn't been installed yet, it's part of my T18 swap.

Yes - The green spring in the pic. Thank you for the response. Sounds like some tests and no real science.
