Is there an easy way to get the later style fuel filler location on a '75?
I think the previous owner had it like this because of the hole on the tub and also the later style taillights.

The tank needed replacing so I got a new one along with new hoses (all for '75). How should I go about this? use newer style filler neck? I heard that the '75 hose can fit all the way inside this filler neck. Should I have went with a later style gas tank and hoses?
    Can someone shed some light?

I don't have a lot of time for this this morning. No links - you'll have to search. Lots of misconceptions and wrong assumptions here.

The filler parts for the rear tanks are all the same, prior to 1976. Then the tank design changed, with new parts. The filler design again changed for 1978 forward.

If you purchase the '74-80 parts book, this will have pictures of each configuration. Mixing and matching of parts is possible. If you use a '78 or later tank, you can use a smaller diameter filler hose. Prior to 1978, the filler hose diameter is larger and the '76 style is likely the same. I have no idea where you got the factoid about fitting inside the filler hose? The change is in 76. No difference in the filler config '70-75.

In '76, with the square tail lights, the backup light is now part of the light assembly. This makes one fewer item to locate on the rear-facing panels. Relative position of the light and filler could have changed, but not which panel the filler is located.

MTS sells all these filler parts, to go with their plastic replacement tanks. Their year range attribution may not be accurate, however.

If you search, this has been covered many times. Look for the Wayback link to Boyink's tank install. That will show you the '78-up style. He moves the filler. AFAIK the fuel filler location does not change for the entire run of the CJ - always coming out the right rear panel in more or less the same place. The side changes to the left for the Wrangler, again IIRC.
