Has anyone replaced their 2G Carb with the following:

    Rochester 2G - Summit Racing

    I have a 1969 CJ5 with the 225 Buick Odd-Fire Engine.

What are your thoughts? Too much carb for a stock 225?

That carb will not bolt onto a 225 intake manifold. There were 2 sizes of 2GC carburetors. The 225 uses the smaller size. The carb listed is the larger size.

The listed carb will bolt onto a 70's vintage 231 intake manifold. Buick switched to the larger 2G when they started up 231 production in 1975. I'm not sure if a 231 intake is a direct bolt-on to a 225. The 231 had EGR that can be blocked off, but that may or may not cause issues with gaskets sealing properly. Others on the forum probably know.

Fyi I bought a Uremco reman from Summit. It worked fine after I disassembled it and put the balls and springs in the right locations...

I posted most of this info in another thread a couple of years ago, but will post it again here in case it might be helpful:

If you decide to get a small-base 2G professionally rebuilt, I had mine done last year by a guy in NC, Jeff Dreibus "The Old Carb Doctor", who did a fantastic job on it. I'd rebuilt it myself many years prior, but his work went well beyond simply rebuilding it again.

Among many other improvements his process entailed, this included bushing the throttle shaft, closing up other vacuum leaks the 2G's tended to have issues with, and drilling out the metering jets slightly. This last modification was made to account for the differences in the fuel that's currently available vs. the gasoline sold during the 1960's.

My V6 has never run as well as it does now following his carb rebuild. Total cost was around $400. The only (other) downside I know of is that he stays in high demand, so his backlog tends to run several months out. Here's a link to his website:

The way it works with Jeff is that you'd first need to send him a $100 deposit in order to get on his waiting list. Using part of the deposit, he'll order a Walker rebuild kit for your carburetor. He'll let you know when he's nearing the point of being ready to work on it - likely several months later - and you send it to him then. The turn-around time from that point is/was fairly quick.

I just replaced my original carb with a "restored" one from the Carburetor Center in El Monte CA. Took me months to find one so i bought it. $300 after i sent my core back. I had mine rebuilt 3x over the past several years and it was never right. This new to me Rochester 2g already runs better so i am happy so far. Just runs cleaner and no flat spot...

Just out of curiosity, have you thought about rebuilding yours yourself? They are a relatively uncomplicated carburetor. Baring damage or a machining issue (broken air horn, worn throttle shaft, etc), anybody with average mechanical abilities could do it. The added knowledge may help down the line as well.....
