To be fair, Rich brought me a disc brake 30 a while back. Just kind of returning the favor.

But I DID sell a broken shovel at the Kempton show this year. Maybe I missed my calling.

What would it take to put you in this car TODAY?

I'ld hate for this one to go to someone else tomorrow if you're not in love with with what you have now.

Treading water with the front axle punt. Waiting on brown Santa again. Its nearly impossible to source anything locally anymore.
In the meantime plumbed up these 5' tranny lines from Summit. They seem nice, adapters came with to thread up at the th350. At the Focus cooler I used these Russell -6an male to 3/8 sae fittings. Off label use as these are sold as efi fittings. Cant believe transmission pressure is greater than fuel injection. Question is will the o ring be ok with transmission fluid . Worst case if it leaks I'll use an aftermarket cooler. I like staying with off the shelf / late model u pull it stuff though.

The Russell's O rings will work fine . I used them on my Hydroboost brake system. Are the brass fittings at the tranny inverted flare ? If they're pipe thread only, they will leak.

Supposed to be tapered thread. I cleaned them up and used just a little seal lock a few threads up.

The d30 project spiraled out. I pulled the carrier to get the ring gear off for the Spartan install. Rust.. I mused over it but I got enough keeping me awake at night. I hauled it over to Appalachian Off Road in Westminster. They'll r&r the bearings and install the Spartan.
In the meantime finished up the cooling hoses, decided to go ahead with the Holley 390 so bolted it up. Bolted up the pulleys, alt bracket. Ps bracket dated the grinder as it didnt care for the hei distributor. It's soaking in degreaser now.
Partially tore down the 300. Rust on the forks and gears... I'll get them cleaned up and see if they're pitted. At this point I need a press to finish disassembly. You can still get Terra lows for the 300 right ?
Budget on this thing seriously out of control.. IMG_20211228_134132493~2.jpg IMG_20211228_155556073~2.jpg

Tera Mfg is no longer making the 300 4-1 kit last I heard but JB Conversions is. In my experience the JB kit is a little stronger but the Tera kit was a little quieter.

Good progress you’re making. That rear output can be a bear to press apart sometimes.
Check the input shaft where it meets the rear output pocket bearing. They tend to brinelle the pilot. Lots of times it can be polished out.
JB Fabrication makes a darn nice twin shifter conversion for these too.
They also have shims and other parts for the 300.

Shop thinks about $200. They'll check the pattern but said usually reusing same shims rarely needs tinkering just changing the bearings. Just new pinion and carrier bearings.

Heres the brake setup that came out of a 97 Pathfinder yesterday. $65 at the yard, got the gas pedal assembly too. Same setup in glass flatty. Still had all my cad templates. 4 hrs instead of 2 weeks the first time. Stuff sure does get easier after the first time
    Tada!

The 30 is back from the spa. New bearings, seals and the Spartan locker installed. I cleaned up the cover, acetoned the surfaces and bolted it up with a lube locker gasket. A quick coat of shake and shoot. I have one ball joint to change, the spindles and bearings are soaking in degreaser.
Should have 4 wheels on this thing by end of the weekend. IMG_20220104_160048447~2.jpg IMG_20220104_163551299~2.jpg

Yes, theres a local 4wd shop. Kinda informal place but I had them do the diff work on glass flatty. Good guy, reasonable labor rate, good attention to detail and good turnaround.

Replaced the ball joints on the 30. Bought the Harbor Freight ball joint kit. Worked excellent. Rebuilt the spindles ( new bearings, seals) cleaned up and installed the axle shafts. Pressed the studs out of the wheel hubs, cleaned up the Chevy 1/2 ton backing plates and wheel hubs. Should be finishing up the disc stuff tomorrow and getting the hubs on. Hopefully be on 4 wheels by the end of the day. Oh ran around the corner and swapped my neighbor their Hello Fresh dinner box for my hub seals. Always the Fedex driver..

Best friend Brian showed up on short notice today with some time to kill. Banged out this crossmember in less than 2 hrs. Me I'd of been a week. Plus his welding skills far exceed mine. He pokes polite fun of my " turn and burn" welding ( hey if you dont weld good, weld hot)
Got the disc plates bolted up, new studs in and tapped in the races. Tuesday looks too cold to shoe so I'll fill the kerosene cans and get the axle under and wheels on then.

I gotta ask if you couldn't use the channel open up so the adapter foot is in the channel and flanges don't hang down.
And you gotta be careful doing stuff without a rubber on it.

Getting that d300 front output clear is a bear. Cutting it close as is. It'll get an isolater yet trannys just sitting on it

I'm struggling with this Chevy disc brake conversion. Used the parts list off the MotorTrend article.
1: There's not enough room between the rotor and caliper bracket for the disc pad.
2: I would have to grind a crap ton off the knuckle for the caliper clearance and at that the turning radius 3/8 stop bolt is still in the way.
I reused the drum brake spindles/ wheel hubs which may be a problem and I noticed many of the caliper brackets have 12 bolt holes allowing for some clocking. Mine are 6 bolt. Pics tomorrow 9° right now.
Anyone with this know the nuances / pitfalls?

My first guess is You need the specific inner wheel bearings that space the hub out just right.

Next be rotor hat offset, calipers not entirely opened up, pads needing minor sanding.

    Standing by for pictures :watch::waiting:

Go to the tech section and look up Fock er's front brake tutorial. At about post #35 I discuss this very same problem. I found 3 different wheel bearings that when installed move the hub in or out to get the clearance you need. Part numbers are also noted.
