I bought this FC-150 in 2015 and have been slowly picking away at it over the years when I have time. Last week I started to wire wheel the frame to remove the paint and rust and found cracks at the forward rear spring mounts.

When I got it I noticed that there was one welded up crack right in front of the driver's side shock mount but didn't look any closer at the time, but now I see that there are smaller cracks on both sides.

A previous owner also bolted 3/16" plate to the middle outside portion of both frame rails and looking closer, that's likely due to a large vertical crack running through one of the mounting holes of the rearward mount of the passenger side front spring. I couldn't get a picture of this as it's too tight of a camera and the driver's side seems to be undamaged.

These cracks are the only damage I can see to the frame and it's other wise straight and fairly rust free. It had the remains of a plow mount when I got it and had likely been a farm jeep for most of it's previous life. I'm just planning on using it for cruising and it should have an easy life with me. My plan is to V out the cracks, weld them up and fish plate over top but I'd appreciate opinions of ways to fix this up.

what I was always told to do is
drill a small hole at each end of crack
then take a burr and grind the crack itself
    then weld

In my experience, you rarely find a FC frame that isn't cracked. Kaiser tried to address that with the strapping but it wasn't any more effective on the FC's than it was on the MB/2A. If light duty is all the rig will see, follow Ron's advice. If you actually want the problem fixed, box the frame and add a fish plate from behind the front spring hangers all the way to the horns. The fish plating is complicated by those out board hangers and perhaps add reinforcing for those on the inside.
