I had the chance to swing into Stockton Wheel today in person and looks like they are going to be able to fabricate me some wheels with OEM centers to fit my hubcaps and my disk brakes. They’re going to make me one and send it up for me to test the fitment.

For the finish - can anyone tell me what kind of paint is closest to the OEM a look for a 1966 Tux? Primer or powder coat, and assuming it's paint: gloss or satin? @Keys5a do you know?

Gloss white paint. The gloss back in the day wasn't near as glossy as today's clearcoat glosses.

Thanks. You mentioned “Glacier White” is that a PPG or Dupont color I could reference?

Good news - Stockton Wheel mocked up a custom wheel for me - 15x8" with 5x5.5" bolt circle, with a 4.25" bore hole and 3.5" backspacing to accommodate the disc brakes, and an OEM-style center to fit my hubcaps. Should get it tomorrow to check the fitment and will report back.

Edit - note that I edited the diameter of the wheels I ordered - they are indeed 15” NOT 16”. I think 15” is correct for my vehicle. Please correct me if I’m wrong! The mock-up Stockton sent is 15x8”.

Here’s a couple more pics, and I will post some with the wheel on the Jeep when I get the tub off the frame and back on the rotisserie here in a minute when my buddy shows up to hold the tag line.

Note also that Stockton does not paint wheels - they only powder coat them.

Here’s some pics of the wheel installed….and it fits great!
    D18B13C4-2420-4105-8021-7B69A2B4A6D5.jpeg 35F6A634-D4DA-4C7C-B9D7-CFCA10A622C5.jpeg BC33BECF-495E-42B5-A4B0-950931F9FADC.jpeg
My NOS hubcaps however….while they fit on the nubs on the wheels - do not fit over the Warn hubs on the front axle, because I’m an idiot and I guess I have the wrong ones. The center bore is 3.75”…too small.

The rear caps with the Jeep emblem will work fine but I wonder if I can find new front caps with a 4.25” bore…since they are just generic chrome hubcaps…or if I should sell the set and give up? Anyone know of chrome 1960s dog dish hubcaps that would fit over the hubs?

Edit - I’m not really even sure what vehicle the dog dish cap set that I actually have belong on, does anyone know?

Are these new centers? They look used in your pictures.

There are dog-dish caps for the 6 on 5.5" Wagoneer that are close to the correct ones for the CJ 5 on 5.5". These will not fit on the nubs but might fit on Ford centers - no data.

I have several of the Wagoneer cap. Measure your inner distance on the cap and on the hole and I will compare. Mine are R-W-B with the later-style Jeep lettering.

Just make double-dang sure Stockton does the wheels correctly.

I bought a set from them years ago, paid big $, waited forever, and they finally showed up with the wrong center hole size. I took them to a machine shop to have them enlarged, and Stockton covered the costs, but it was still a pain.

I had OE dog-dish hubcaps and they wouldn't work on the Stocktons.

Tim - Stockton sent a mock-up for me to test fitment - I have to send it back to them and they will be sending new ones eventually. I suspect that explains why they look used. I will take some measurements of the hubcaps I have and upload pics after work when I am back home. I recall they are 10.375" across (which I know doesn't make sense - they should be 10.25 or 10.5"). The rear caps have the early Kaiser Jeep colors and letters (I saved the pic from the guy I bought them from). I suspect they are correct for a Commando 4x4 from the same era (1966).

Mike - that stinks they did that! So far the mockup they sent me appears to be the right center bore size, and the caps I have snap over the nubs securely.

JW60 - I bet they can but can't answer, maybe give them a call?

And for the record - I know I these caps don't belong on my Tux....this wheel project is more about something OEM looking that fits with the disc brakes and the caps are a cherry on top if I can figure it out. I was looking at this reference pic and got all excited:

Here's somme pics of the hubcaps I have.

They measure 3-5/8" across the center of the hole, and 10-3/8" across the backs.

So far I think my only option to run these caps would be to take the fronts and chuck them up on a lathe and enlarge the hole .625. seems like that would be a terrible thing to do to these nice caps.

I have an extra of the cap with a hole for the front. The hole measures 3 13/16" and the cap is 10 5/16" overall (with 10 3/16" where it mounts on the nubs).

I don't have anything for you regarding what fits a CJ. I know that two of my front caps are clearly factory made, with a rolled over edge at the center hole (they are on the J10). The third front cap appears to have been made from a rear cap by removing the center. Nice job, but a sharp edge. Jim (jpflat2a) provided some of these - he might know more if he's listening.

Going to measure what the hole diameter size on the Turbines is. I have Warn lockouts too.
The hole diameter is 3 13/16”on the turbines.

Commando and CJ5 used the same dog dish hubcap as they shared the same 5.5 x15 rim. The slightly larger diameter dog dish hubcaps were used on the trucks, and 6 lug Wagoneers. The larger caps also fit the later AMC 6" x 15 rims with 4 hubcap nubs.
I've never experimented fitting the dog dish hubcaps over Warn lockouts, but the later Wagoneers had smaller diameter chrome-capped front hubs that fit the dog dish caps.

Thanks Donny. In taking a closer look at my situation, my issue of fitment is because of the custom wheels' backspacing. If I had stock wheels, the hubcaps I had would fit over the Warn M2 lockouts easily (as pictured above in post #35). Because I have custom wheels with 3.75" backspacing made to fit the disc brake calipers, the wheel centers are too far back. If I had another 0.5" (4" backspacing) the caps would fit. But I can't do that, so I think I have to mill out some of the centers of these front caps to get them to work.
