I’ve got a switch like the style attached. It has two positions as you pull it out. I wired it like the original one was, but who knows if that was right. Never got to see it work. Anyway, my headlights come on at both the first and second click stop of the switch along with the rest of the marker and signal lights. Is the first stop supposed to be marker and signal lights coming on only, not the headlights until the second click spot? If so, I’ve got something connected in the wrong place.
Also, there was a bundle of several purple wires coming off the switch that I don’t see mentioned in the TSM wiring diagrams. I think they probably went to the gauges to illuminate them?

Yes, the switch should behave as you expect, with the headlights on at the second stop. I suspect you can get that switch to work, but the correct switch has a circuit breaker hanging off the back. Should be the same switch as the '71 and earlier CJ - what RockAuto shows for your application is wrong. Walck's has a switch that looks right - Head Light Switch CJ2A, CJ3A, CJ3B, CJ5, CJ6, DJ3A-946613

You should be able to connect Walck's switch like the TSM diagram shows. If you have extra wires, you'll need to figure out where they go. You have the Jeep in front of you, and we don't.
