Just picked up a 1971 cj5 and the steering box in it is pretty wiped. Wondering who you guys recommend for rebuilding or where to find a replacement?

Usually the only thing worn out are the pins on the sector shaft. John Deere tractors used the same ones and the old ones can be knocked out and new ones tig welded in.

You can see the new ones in the first couple of pictures here. Ted's Steering Upgrade, With A Twist

Probably the single most discussed thing on this website....steering.
If you have a lift & bigger tires you're best off converting to something else. If keeping it stock, you can rebuild the stock box (& all the other steering components) & have good results.
Here's a good place to start-

Brian Hainer (metalshaper on youtube) has several videos on how to do it...or how he does them. So whether you do it yourself or have him do it for you, the link below might be helpful. His email is metalshaper@comcast.net if you'd like to contact him. He is in NY, so not too far.

I think you will find this post from maurywhurt quite helpful...

The videos mentioned above do a pretty good job of walking you through the process. Rebuilding the steering box was much less difficult than I imagined. I did get some aftermarket parts that were not the correct dimension and a few mentions of the aftermarket steering sector being substandard. I ended up getting a NOS steering sector and NOS rebuild parts for the drag link. Consider doing the drag link and bell crank at the same time. The parts are not that much, even NOS. I also did new tie rod ends at the same time. I thought they were fine until I took them off.
