I imagine one could wrap a few layers of electric tape to get closer.

Proper assembly goo makes needle bearing fears a thing of the past... I've even gotten to the point I don't need/or use a dummy shaft 90% of the time now with this.

All new bearings and gaskets. New intermittent shaft and front output shaft along with the bushing for inside the rear output.

Additionally I needed an input gear. Seems the adapter on the rear of my T18 wasn’t torqued properly and loosened up quite a bit over the past 2 years. Never noticed any problems but I am missing several gear teeth from that TC input gear.:censored::censored:

I see I never updated here about the TC rebuild. As everyone said it wasn’t hard at all. Easier than a T18 transmission for sure.

It’s been installed for several months and the old girl is nearly leak free! Everything with this Jeep has been pretty well dialed so I had to go and mess it up!! Couple weeks ago now I went to the OHV park got stuck a couple times. Then at the end of the day I had to drive out in the lake. I took the wrong turn and ended up in a much deeper section than I intended. Soaked the distributor and the alternator and probably got the Holly Sniper a little wet ( it wasn’t in the water but close). The 231 runs at idle well but as soon as I put it under any load it starts running very poorly. Like the timing is way off. It’s been parked as I have the new project taking up the garage. Parts ordered and the new(er) ECJ5 should be out by next week.

I am interested in your Holley Sniper emersion test also. What distributor are you using, and how did it hold up?

Spoke with Holly today. They think my biggest issue is the O2 sensor. Apparently they short/fail from being submerged. I ordered a new one and a new LCD display. Almost $500. for both.

Wench is the next casualty of sinking the Jeep. I ordered and installed a new control box but no spinny noise. So new $700 Warn Evo 8,000 winch.

I vow to never drive into deep lakes again.

Interesting, with the O2 sensor so low I would find it really hard to keep it out of the water

I think it’s the “inside” parts of the sensor. Like from being stalled in deep water.

With the evolution of fuel systems and time, all my motorcycles and ATVs have fuel injection now, and I run them in the water all the time with no issues.

Just don’t stall and have the exhaust fill with water. I think maybe that’s why I see ATVs with snorkels on the exhaust .

If you are that deep the intake is under water

Nice thing about an old 2 stroke motor if you flood it on a river crossing just drag it to the bank pull the plug dry it and kick the motor over till you pump all the water out. Then you should be good to go

I understand the wire on an o2 sensor also allows some air to enter for it to function.
    Carry a spare sensor,
mount the sensor as high as you can
Run a single exhaust with a hoop if possible.

Also try to enter the water with a cool engine ie take a lunch break or be last in line.

The water is what makes you stall.
When water fills the exhaust the engine can no longer take in air. That is what happened to my Jeep when my wife followed Posimoto through the Rubicon river......
Water filled the exhaust and choked out the engine. Towed it out and it fired right up.
