Just to help clear things - they all have a control system / ECU. Some, like the EZ-EFI have a separate electronic module that connects to the throttle body. Others, like the FITech, Powerjection, and Summit have the ECU embedded in the throttle body.

Thanks, Warloch, Your well informed & clear on FI systems. One thing to mention is that an 'ECM' & an " ECU " refer to different Control systems & do different operations / functions.

An Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is any embedded system in automotive electronics that controls one or more of the electrical systems or subsystems in a vehicle.

Types of ECU include Engine Control Module(ECM),

Ok ... Thanks for the education , Mike.
Do any of the control modules , on these aftermarket FI systems, use the temp sensor, IAC, TPS , Maf Intake air , Or as I suspect , those are are just sensors for a Turbo throttle body.

BTW, Does anybody out there know where I could find a SBC 327 ?

Yes, the controls modules (ECM, ECU, what ever you want to call it) on these aftermarket FI systems use all of those sensors, Temp, IAC, TPS, MAF and O2.

Most of the ones being discussed here are 'self tuning' or 'closed loop' in that the code in the ECU takes the inputs from the sensors and can adjust what it needs to do in the next cycle - that is what makes them 'self learning' and sets them apart from many of the factory modules and those like Howell that need to be programmed based on the engine prior to install. You need all the standard EFI sensors to allow the module to have a full picture of what is happening at any point.

For more in formation - go to Summit and download the installation instructions for the units since they have free links. The EZ-EFI is a good one to look at as it will show you where each of the sensors are, or at least the wiring diagram to fit to them.

I installed the FAST EFI 1.0 system on my odd fire with Offenhauser 4bbl manifold, Pertronix module, FAST coil and FAST ignition box. Runs great so far.

Hi Warloch, do you know the model number of *******'s system? Is it a 4 barrel intake?

    This one maybe?

Do you have to have the in tank equipment? I have a sump on my tank, hoping I can find one that works with an external fuel pump.

Yes I got it from Tanksinc.com. The FAST kit came with an external pump I didn’t use because I bought a new tank and thought what the hell. Keep in mind these systems require a return line.

Thanks. I have a return line already, just wanted to make sure I could run an external pump out of the bung in my sump.

Thoughts on some of the issues raised in this thread. In my research on TBI based EFI, an alternative solution to the in tank fuel pump, some have used what I would call a surge tank, it is a small volume ~ 1 gallon or so and uses a frame mounted pump in the pressure range your system requires. The pump is between the main tank and the surge tank, they claimed it eliminated surging, gas starvation and other issues regarding an unbaffled tank, and using an external pump eliminates the mods to the main tank. GM based TBI normally use a 15 PSI max pump. Different systems, different pumps, different operating pressure. I suppose some fuel pressure "tuning" can be done with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. But many pumps don't like being throttled by an AFPR and won't last long. Like many things in life, you pay your money and take your choice, depending on your experience, skill set, budget, tools and equipment available to you and your personal comfort level.

Anybody look into the Holley sniper 2GC? Can this run on the oddfire engine? Looks as if it is a 4 wire setup. 1 ground, 1 positive, 1 rpm signal and switched 12v ignition. There is a small bore and a large bore 2GC. What did the 231 oddfire use? I'm currently running too large of a carb and tired of it not performing like it should off road and not wanting to go back to the stock carb.

I talked to Holley, even though there page lists a v6 for a 1965 Buick Skylark they told me specifically that the 2GC would not work on an odd fire engine. What a shame this would be great on a factory 2bbl intake with a Dauntless air cleaner.
