being it's a tux and a 6 . I wouldn't say it's going to worth a lot of money . but it's always a buyer / seller market when it comes to jeeps . it's not going pay you enough to retire

I don't remember where I saw the production numbers for CJ6A, but I recall it was something quite low... I thought it was 20-30-40 something like that. There are very few of them around now.

If the OP is interested in fixing up this Jeep, he would not have to put it back to pristine CJ6A condition if he did not want to. The collector market for Jeeps is not like the one for cars ... restored utility vehicles like CJs and pickups don't fetch much money compared to same year/condition passenger cars. So restoring this Jeep to flip it certainly would not make much sense. To me, it would be a shame to extensively modify it, but I think it would be ok to do many of the resto-mod changes and keep the CJ6A identity for the most part. If you had chrome bumpers or original tail lights, you would not want to drive them in the rocks and ruin them ... but otherwise the CJ6A stuff won't get in your way if the OP wanted to use this Jeep as a Jeep. IMO.

To the OP, the CJ6a has come up in discussion a few times before; you might want to read a few old threads that mention them - site:earlycj5.com tuxedo park CJ6A - Bing

Hard to believe that only 1190 cj5a's made for 1966. And that I have one of them.

Welcome to the forum, The book I have, Collector's Library, by Jim Allen, there were 164 in 64, 115 in 65, 160 in 66 and 20 CJ 6A's in 67. I don't know how accurate this is, but that is what it says in my book. It also says that the numbers on your vin tag it is a CJ 6A. If I were you I would try to buy your Buddy's Tux, and put your CJ 6A back original. That would be a very cool Jeep as far as I am concerned, Great project, fun stuff. Best of luck to you what ever you decide.

About if it really is a CJ 6A the book I have says the VIN number starting with 8422 is a CJ6A, it would be good to build on, I would think. It is in pretty good shape all things considered.

Between you and me, we know where 2 of them are. :) And, at least one is dauntless.

So, if it's a '67, you've got something, IMO. If it's a '66, you could have a collectible piece but, not rare.

I'd say that anything that they only made 20 of in any model year qualifies for the R word, or darn close to it. Like a '67 cj6A. Then when you start to consider color options and engine options, you get into maybe having 1 of perhaps 6 that were a particular color. Then, how many of those 6 still exist. Of those that still exist, how many are complete and original or even restorable. Rare.

Looks like it was built in Feb 1966 so it's a '66 with a little under 200 probably built for 1966 model year.

It amazes me how many Tuxedo Parks I see on this forum. I bought mine from a friend that bought it from another friend to plow his storage lot. The First owner had it for 27 years at his cabin in Northern Lower Michigan and sold it to the friend that bought a storage lot. It was too old and tired to use as a serious every day work plow.
After I researched Tuxedo Parks and what they were I decided it was what I wanted to restore, as I have a cabin up North too. I admit mine is a clone at best, it is made up from four Jeeps, the first owner blew up the 143 f and bought another 64 for the motor, and a 71 body to put on it, and put it all together. I have since bought a 66 V 6 and a NOS 134F and replaced the chassis as a Tux 134 F head. Just like this post, I keep seeing Tuxedo Parks pop up, it seems like there are a lot more than there really is, I guess CJ 5's never die just keep going around.

It's kinda fun having a rare Jeep. Mine's #449 of 575 in the production run of Diesel CJ-6's. Titled as a 66, it was actually built in Dec. of 65 with 22 other Diesel CJ-6's that month. It was a BIG month for production. lol

As others have stated, it's your Jeep and you can do whatever you like with it. Because you'll likely have more money invested than you can recoup from a restoration, maybe it's better to use it. But it is your Jeep. That's the beauty of owning one of these, You can do whatever you want with it with little repercussion at this point. You can spend giant amounts of money making it perfect, or you can just use it as is and enjoy the heck out of it. We won't judge you either way! ;)

I have thing for Diesel's I had three Diesel Luv Trucks they were great little trucks. I have a Petter 6.5 air cooled generator diesel motor for a toy, I fire it up just every now and then just to play with it. Always thought a diesel CJ 5 would be neat.

Just saw this post talking about rare keeps. I have a ‘67 CJ6A. It’s fun to drive and gets the looks and lots of questions. I’ve had it about 20 years.
