No plastigage. I did a very accurate TLAR.
    That
    Looks
    About
    Right

The rear of the crank did have diagonal grooves. Does that require something else I missed?

Nope. Diagonal grooves = neoprene two piece seal. Smooth or polished = rope is better. Carry on

Got the CJ out and cleared fallen limbs/trees off the property, then went out and about on the roads coming into and out of our area and cleared fallen trees and limbs out of the road ways.

If I had a chainsaw it'ld be fixed by now.

The kitchen was a poorly placed addition.
The driveway is actually on the far side of the house with the travel trailer, and the two Fords holding it down. The fence is on the property line, garage is set back 3' from line. drive maybe set back 1'. So there is a super awkward jeep only offset. Our old little Trax would fit for storm shelter but wasn't easy (no means a big car) the flex has been in there once for some multi day hvac issues and it had one inch all around to close the garage.

But it's perfect for a CJ.

Finished up my drag with the addition of a winch and one final brace to the tailgate.

Waiting on the new pistons so I lightly bolted on the heads and placed the old intake on top. Hot soapy water and a scrub brush. Then sprayed with brake cleaner. Let it dry while I ran up to FLAPS for some engine paint.

Pistons arrived today and I brought them right to the machine shop to swap the rods.

I’m not sure how I thought of it but at work today I realized that I didn’t install the oil slinger on the crank before I put the timing cover on. Took it all apart and put it back right.

Looking through Facebook Marketplace, I came across a Warn/Bellview 8,000lbs Upright winch. I gave the guy $100.00 for it and brought it home.
After a little cleaning and gear oil change the thing runs strong.
I cut a section out of the front bumper to make room for it.
Made up a 1/2" diamond plate bracket and welded it all together.
I had a portion of a spool of Made in USA 5/16" 7 by 19 aircraft cable with a 10,500lbs rating and was able to get more than 4 wraps on the winch.
When I was done, I added a pair of 4" Rubber Tractor lights on the bumper with 4416 Sealed beam spot light bulbs in them. It's looking more like a Jeep daily.

Pistons back from shop. Here we go.

first time into an engine this deep. Take my time and try not to screw anything up.

All the bearings are gone so that’s good.

    Heads, lifters and pushrods.

The crank and cam were already installed, the rest took 4 hours or so but I’m ready to stick her back in the Jeep.

The scary warm 80 degree February weather here in California gave my wife the urge to daily the jeep all week. The bugs were getting built up pretty good on the front so I gave it a bath before she left for work this morning. Steve called me on his way to work and said, "Your jeep looks better today." When I asked what he was talking about He replied, "Your wife passes me every morning on the freeway in between the TA truck stop and the river. Your jeep is usually in the 3rd lane doing 75 mph as if it was a brand new JK. I'm guessing you washed it because its shinier this morning than it was yesterday."

Couple days ago I put the engine in by myself. It only took like 15 minutes . When I got done I was standing there wondering how it was so easy.

I realized I forgot to put on the clutch!!
    So I did that today.

It was just a bit harder to get everything lined up but still only took 30 minutes by myself.

Yep, I put mine in and forgot the mid motor plate between the block and flywheel. Had to pull it back out and take the clutch and flywheel back off.
