That's a Ford case, Jeep bellhousing, Scout Dana 300, and if the transmission mount is on the adapter it has been modified to have a mount (stock IH t-19 did not have a mount provision on the adapter) or someone modified the reverse idler/counter gear shaft pocket as mentioned above on a T-18 adapter. The Jeep and Scout T-18's can be told apart pretty easily by looking at the top two transfer case bolt holes. The Jeep adapter has the two holes almost perfectly horizontal from each other. The IH unit has the right hole significantly lower than the left "clocking" the right side of the transfer case downward.

So that's a D300... Nick can identify it at a glance. Looking more closely, it appears to have an aluminum output housing, which points to a D300. A Texas pattern D300 is a scarce part, and likely worth the cost of purchase.

Scout and Jeep Dana 300's both used aluminum output housings. Scout 300 was the "Texas" bolt pattern but the case did not have the bottom protrusion or bolt hole where it bolts to the adapter like 18's and 20's do. Another indicator of a 300 whether Jeep or IH is the bottom pan is virtually flat with one small protrusion in the center for intermediate gear clearance.
All IH Scout 300's used the shorter rear output shaft and iirc the speedo cable hookup was clocked differently. I know Scout and Jeep 20's were different. Jeep 300's had two different rear output shaft lengths with different housings and speedo gear parts.

Thanks for the information Nick. I probably am going to have to fabricate something for the transmission mount but that shouldn't be a big deal. I bought this several years ago. My wife and I had planned a trip to Las Vegas and for some reason we decided to drive my old Suburban down there. I stumbled across this whole setup on ebay while looking for something else and got it for $275.00. I explained to my wife that I had to buy it because it was a really good deal. She went along with that until I had to confess that I had absolutley no use for it. At the time I owned no AMC powered vehicles and my GPW already had an SM420.

The transfer case and input gear is worth way more than you paid for the whole setup. Around here if checked out and it's in good shape that is a $450-$500 transfer case...
It was only used 1 1/2 years in 1979 1/2 and 1980 IH Scout 2's only. The input gear has different spline counts between automatic and manual transmissions also.
The good thing is with the exception of the input gear and main housing, almost all of the Jeep parts will work if something is worn or breaks.
