The battery on my 58 CJ5 is next to the radiator on the passenger side. Is this the original location or was it on the firewall like the Willy Wagons? If on the firewall, where can I find an original style holder?

Over the frame on the inside right fender probably is correct for 1958, if it's the same as my stock '57.
Right hand firewall was available for under-dash heater tubes.

    This is a picture from eWillys of a 1965 F134 CJ-5 -

I believe all the F134 Jeeps have this battery placement. This changes to the firewall with the 225 V6 Jeeps. If you go here http://www.ewillys.com/category/CJ5/?tag=stock there are a lot of pictures of factory-equipped CJ-5s.

If you want to move the battery to the firewall, the battery bracket for '76 and newer CJ-5s will work.

If you look at drawings of the '53 - '64 CJ frame, the battery box location is over the passenger side wheel assembly behind the radiator. Just like in the picture above.

Anyone have a source for the frame mounted tray? The top of mine needs replacing.
    Thanks,

Post a want to buy ad here. When jeeps get parted out, the frame and axles are usually left and headed to scrap.

The tray for an earlier Jeep will work. Not much difference in them.
