I have a 67" with the factory Dauntless. It came with the T-86, which is no bueno. I conducted some research on the site and read many posts. I obtained the correct T-14 (complete with the transfer case) from a CJ with a Dauntless setup. That being said, I'm about to undertake the swap, but I don't know what issues to look out for and which, if any, parts I will need to purchase. Can some of you T-86 to T-14 veterans give me some guidance?

the main thing is the length. the t-14 is just a bit longer. the driveshafts should be fine but make sure the rear has enough slip. the clutch pedal pivot jackshaft thingey will be cockeyed. i think the frame can be redrilled to move it back but I think on mine i just left it crooked and it works no big deal since its on ball mounts. youll also need to redrill the frame to move the crossmember back or perhaps fudge the mount. Theres probrobly other things but i think thats the major stuff youll encounter

Both T-14 and T-86 did have an adapter and they used the same one. These were different than a T-90 as the transmission bolt pattern is different between the T-14/T-86 and the T-90.

Good question. No. It didn't. Moreover, I measured it and it is 9" deep. I believe I have encountered the same situation briefed at the Advanced Adapters Tech Vault: "The T14 was mated to the Buick engine by two different means. The Pre 1971 transmissions were mated with a factory Buick bellhousing coupled with a cast iron adapter. In 1971 Jeep replaced the 2 piece bellhousing and adapter with a single deep bellhousing. It was also during this unique bellhousing that Jeep introduced a problematic cable clutch pedal assembly. The T14A in 1972 Jeep offered the T14 behind the 232/258 inline 6 engine. The engine was mated to the transmission with a single deep bellhousing with no adapter plates."

It therefore looks like I scored a 71' setup (yes, it did come from a Dauntless powered CJ)

So here's the question on this issue: can I use the original T-86 bellhousing/adapter plate combo in the T-14?

    Regard -

Yes. The only thing that changes for the 1971 transmission setup is the one-piece bellhousing. The T-14 will bolt up to the T-86 bell and adapter. Or use the T-14 one-piece bell.

See Jeep2003 above about the length change.

The thing that popped in my head was the Clutch - I don't remember if its the same between them, but I would swap it out while I'm in there anyhow.

The clutch is the same. It's virtually a bolt-in. The t14 is ~5/8" longer than the t86. The only thing I had to do was move the cross member and clutch bell crank pivot bracket back 5/8".

    my jeep is a 66 with a t14 swapped.

the driveshaft works but really tight. It hasnt been an issue but I would have it cut down. You can make this decision when you do this.

the clutch brackets only need to be moved back.

if I recall cross member was redrilled.

from what I can tell from the previous owners work, it looks really straight forward and simple.

Fortunately, because of what I had read before in other threads on this forum, I also got the drives shafts with the rest of the package.
