I know you guys won’t be happy until I weld together a 300 piece jigsaw puzzle of rectangular intake that is conformed to the inside of the fender. I’m not doing it.

    I’m not.

You guys didn’t read the fine print.
    Necessity > vanity

I’m hitting the trails next week, and I had to do something quick and dirty. It’s gonna be dry as a popcorn fart, and the dust will be horrendous. It’s not a permanent fix. I’m sure as soon as my wife sees it…. :madwife:

That reminds me; we were at a car show last week where we saw this beautiful IH pickup.

My wife was casually walking around the back of it, stops, and yells to me, “Is this bed supposed to be crooked?” I did the famous “Shhh” gif in my mind as I looked over my shoulder, preparing to apologize to the owner, but nobody was around.

The bed was offset maybe an inch to the right?

That woman has a natural talent for finding imperfections in people’s pride and joy.

Perhaps bilge vent or boat engine hose might be an option?
PO (a fire dept.) I think used a section of that stuff between the carb and air cleaner in my jeep.

Since this is bothering you guys, let me explain my situation a bit more.

There are very few parts of that Jeep that I had a choice in location. I would've loved to keep the air box in the engine bay. It would've made wiring much simpler, it would’ve kept the air intake on the cool side of the engine, and maybe a heater in the cab and more storage could've been an option. But my priorities (and order of assembly) were #1: suspension, #2: engine compartment roll cage, #3 engine. A Jeep that is comfortable, silent, sporty, and has solid, predictable handling was my main priority. Fitting the engine and its controls around the suspension and cage is easier than doing it in any other order, but sometimes you still hit a dead end with such a small package to work with.

I literally built this engine compartment with a straightedge from the grill to the cowl. With the hood closed, there is no room to go forward from the air intake at the firewall without passing directly by the hot exhaust manifold (negating the entire purpose of bringing the intake forward) or going so low that it becomes a drowning issue.

Also, the intake path is already nearly 4’ long, so the shorter the better.

    I have three options.

#1: Open the intake under the dash
Con: It’s a non-starter. I have that on the 3b and it’s too loud. WOT and you can’t hear yourself think, even with the little solex.

#2: Bring the intake straight up and try to scour enough fresh air from the gap where the hood/cowl/fender meet.
Con: With a 3” intake, I’d need just over 7 square inches of area to prevent obstruction, and I don’t have near that, or the passage to get 7 square inches of continuous area up there in the first place due to the cage and fender clearance.

#3: Come out through the fender.
    Con: It’s ugly.

I don’t want to put too much work into this (or do anything that isn’t easily reversible) since I have plans to run a different engine in the future which will completely change the air intake setup.

I have some leftover blue. If it starts to bother me, I’ll paint it, but you honestly can’t see it unless you kneel.

I’m continuing to fine-tune this rear suspension. I got the spring rate where I want it, the shock valving where I want it, the axle wrap ironed out, but now over the weekend when I took he whole family out to eat, certain bumps would make the rear bottom out hard. Simultaneously, the top of the pumpkin is contacting the gas tank, and the axle tube is hitting the tail pipe. A bit taller bump stops are in order.

I originally built this around rear Rodeo bumpstops; I really like how they’re a progressive design that can act as part of your suspension, rather than just a snubber. But they are quite tall, and I was worried they’d be too much, so I trimmed them. I grabbed another set the last time I was at the yard.

Trimmed version that I’ve been running on left, stock on right.

Jumping on the rear bumper feels no different. Hopefully they’re the final piece to the puzzle.

I have te rework mines in the rear someday, i dont have clearance issus but since i dont have much up travel i hit them often on the trail, i will have to get something smoother for my old days XD
