More progress on my 67's to-do list. Swapped out the headlamp switch with a good used one. I re-did the power connection, the + lead to feed the headlamp switch at the breaker was diverted with an added length of wire to the switch for the burnt-out driving lamps on the top. The spare + lead in the dash was on the headlamp switch with no circuit breaker. Not good. So I switched the two around so I could eliminate the extra wire and have circuit breakers on both. Then I replaced the driving lamps with some neat little halogen lamps that a Police Officer friend had and never used.

Ten Bucks for the complete kit with wire and lighted rocker switch, but only used the lamps and the wiring. Nighttime view:

I like the look of the old-school toggle and green indicator lamp that was already under the dash.....

Also discovered the horn still worked and it sounds just like the Road Runner from the Wyle E Coyote cartoons - Bleep Bleep! The column has no continuity from the column to the wheel, so I added a momentary contact switch salvaged from a jump-box that I parted out. I placed the horn button on the right of the existing 3-hole bracket that holds the choke cable in the center.

Also got to the wobbling pedals assembly with it's bent toward the gas pedal brake pedal. Turns out the flat on the pivot shaft bushing was not installed correctly, hence the wobble. Bushings were good, just cleaned them up and lightly greased them. Swapped out the brake pedal with a non-bent one. Much better now to use the brake and gas now! Also salvaged the temp gauge sender from the parted out 69's intake manifold. Then I swapped it for the broken one in the 67's intake. To my elation, it still works and the temp gauge reads just like Fussy - rides on the "E" of TEMP when she's fully warmed up.

Took Peppy on the highway last night and all seemed well for an antique at 60 MPH. When I exited the highway I had to make a left at the stop light. When I did I didn't hit the gas at all, just eased up on the clutch and went. I saw the AMP light flick on for two seconds, so I guess that technically works, even though it is NOT lit with key on, engine off?!?

I am narrowing my list down rather quickly here #4, 5, 7, 8, 11 and 12 are all done so my new list is quite short:

    1. Fuel tank
    and a new list item....
    2. Shocks - they started leaking in the rear since I've bounced them down the road for a week now and they were at rust rest for 15 years in the barn.

Six new shocks I ordered arrived the other day from NAPA, so I will probably install them tomorrow night. All four for Peppy, and the front shocks for Fussy.

    Things are looking up! :)

Update on Peppy. Peppy's been in Mom's garage since last summer when I ran out of petrol and one of the carb's idle passages must have plugged up, causing a stall at idle. I rebuilt the carb over the winter, but hadn't gotten around to installing it. So for Mother's day I promised Mom the garage would get cleaned and that meant Peppy had to come out to play.

Gotta love the old as the hills electric petrol pump this Commando has. Primed the carb right up and it cranked for less than 15 seconds before starting up. Got peppy out of the garage and spent the rest of the day cleaning and organizing the garage. When I was done (it was turning dark outside) I pulled out Peppy and parked Willy in Peppy's place. Wow, the CJ is sure shorter than the Commando is!

Peppy's gonna get it's new petrol tank, I already disassembled the bracketry and painted them.

In the very first picture there are two wires that can be seen coming out of the wire harness by the steering column that combine at one terminal...what plugs into that terminal?

    Edit: Added pictures

Okay, I don't either but didn't know if there should be.
I presume that it is a point of connection for courtesy lights or other such similar lights that would be desirable to be dimmed.
    Thanks for responding.

You said it dims with the rheostat. I did not check that. BUT, I do not have the downlight over the switches panel like my 68 and 71 have. Maybe that plug is for the lead to feed that light over the switches panel when it has one?

Alright! I got to install my new tank last night! The easiest part was being able to recycle the original plastic petrol lines. That eliminated line fab time.
67-Jeepster083.JPG << Last view of the old petrol 5 quart tank system! LOL!
67-Jeepster084.JPG << Seriously, what's this electric pump from? It's quiet and works awesome!
67-Jeepster085.JPG << Still need the connector for the vent fill tube to install that. (Jeepsterman has on the way to me as I type.)
67-Jeepster086.JPG 67-Jeepster087.JPG << Alright, the tank is in and the petrol gauge works great!

    I will check this out.

That fuel pump is different from any I've seen before.

Hey OzFin, I was looking at two darn complete but beat harnesses I have laying with parts in the basement and on both harnesses that pigtail you questioned was connected to a lead connector that had a doubled yellow wire and headed to the dash dimmer rheostat. Then I looked at my 67 and realized it does not have a dash dimmer. Has the hole where it was, but no dimmer 'stat.

So does the 2 red mystery wires with the single connector turn into the 2 yellow wires? Mine is a 1970 so maybe there different?

Let me drag the camera home and picture those old harnesses. Both harnesses are from 69's.
