    Hey guys,

I realized today that the pit man arm off the 1975 el camino is the chevy car style. Which means weird size tie rods and jeep doesn't fit correctly, too small. No reaming to fit... :(

I am thinking of just getting a Chevy tie rod off a car at flaps and find a 11/16-18 tap or a shop that can tap a spare tie rod assembly that I will cut to size.

    Note: parts stores say that,
Jeep tie rod ends 11/16-18 chevy cars 11/16-18
Stud size for jeep is 1/2-20 chevy is 7/16-20

Only issue I see is jeep is a length 3.22 and chevy is 8.79

Any one see issues or got better recommendations for getting this done fairly easily and cheap but safe..

    Piff,
I'll shoot you a PM, but I have an arm off of a YJ that should work for you. This isn't a for sale, I'll give it to you.

I would get a pitman arm that is reamed correctly or get one reamed. Then replacement parts like tie rod ends are off the shelf parts and not one-off custom pieces.

    Piffey,

I agree with the above........This is the easiest fix.
But, Parts Mike up the road east of Sacramento on Hi-way 80 in Newcastle will ream them for a charge if you want, and I would get away from the long chevy TR ends as they will bend and get into something with a shorter body and more conventional......there is plenty of other Tie Rod ends available in both Left & RH threads that can be used with the jeep taper or use the inserts and change them over to a 1-ton size........Making a HD tie rod out of DOM Tubing is easy. In Fact Parts Mike will also make you a HD Tie Rod.

    PM me if you like......

    Piff,
I also have one spare goferit insert I didn't need and a drill bit you could borrow if you want to go that route.

Hey guys, sorry for the late reply I was paying attention to this thread just didn't get a chance to reply till now.

I looked up parts mike, I like the kits. As well as two different flaps stores looking at the tie rods. I ended up ordering a drag link from 4 wheel parts in Sacramento. One that has two seperate tie rod ends unlike the obes they sell at flaps.

I got the nut off the box, but need to grab my puller to finish. I guess a little heat and a 6 foot piece of tube works.

I will try a goeforit spacer on the pitman arm because the arm is nice and bulky but it's flat which I need. The new drag link I'm hoping will fit in nicely.

    Hey Piffey,

On the Drag Link what did you use as a base vehicle to come up with the right length? Or did you just ask for a specific length + the TRE's?

    Tarry,
The drag link is stock 1974 cj5 drag link, I had to search quatratec because 4wheel parts has parts they do not show unless you got a part number.

The Dana 30 I got a while back had tie rods and leaf springs on so I know those fit. I can take measurements if anyone need of either style of drag link for that year. As you know you get some adjustment on tie rods but not a lot.
