Picked it up at the swap meet still attached to the transmission cover. I'd like to use it on the DJ build.

What would the right gas pedal be to fit with it?

Just my 2 cents and maybe worth less than that, but if you like to get into rocks, that suspended pedal leaves a lot to be desired. A deadman to brace your foot off helps but a bottom mounted pedal still works better.

    Hi John,

I could be wrong , but I believe that does use a bottom mounted floor pedal that pivots on that short end..........or at least that is the way I use it?

Nope, no floor attachment at all. My foot cramps up after driving awhile.

You got it right Terry, that style uses the bottom pivot pedal.

mine has a pedal that mounts to the floor cover plate, and the linkage slides up and down in a groove.
It appears that yours did too. Check the wear pattern only on the tip of the linkage.
I also bet that there is no mounting marks for the other schem pictured above.

    linkage mounted to the firewall.

pedal mounting point. pivots on a pair of the round end posts. Rubber with a metal strip screws to the bottom.

I must brag a bit, I have an original, 1970. complete with logo.

Thanks to everybody for adding to the thread. Finding out more about the pedal was just as important as figuring out the pivot portion.

My preference is definitely a floor mounted pedal, even though this if for the DJ and will not see much off road use and really not at all in the rocks. The pivot ball at the base of the pedal? That is similar to the Chevy truck (mid 60s) style where they have 2 pivot points for the pedal.

So, a question: is there an aftermarket source for repro pedals? I can fabricate the pedal mount and even the pivot balls if necessary. But this is a V6 sourced part and I am not familiar with the V6 aftermarket. I know I can get one for the Chevy. And yes, I believe the accelerator linkage simply slides up and down on the back of the pedal as one accelerates/decelerates.

Thanks for the pics jpc- really clarified things.

Bingo..............I had to go look myself.........There was obviously two versions. One with the rubber pedal pad suspended at the end of the bell crank and the other with a pad mounted to the floor that pushed the end of the bell crank...........mine does not look to be a Jeep OEM part as the one JPC showed above............but works much in the same way.

    Gunner,

I think mine may have been a "Dorman" product or perhaps a cheap replacement for the OEM Jeep version............I think you'll find that type of floor pedal was pretty universal and used in many older cars and pick-ups......try some of the old Jeep parts guys.

I looked at my pedal again and it has a GM part #3837887 on it..............not surprising as several manufactures including Willys & AMC bought accessories from GM..........looks like that number was replaced in Sept. of 1972 with this number
GM# 3864740 fits all of GM's line of cars and trucks from 64-71............here is someone who still sells it http://www.classicindustries.com/1969/truck/parts/3864740.html , you will probably have to buy the little studs with balls on the end and attache those to a little plate to screw down to the floor.........either that or scour the wrecking yards..........

Yep, I have a Classic Industries gas pedal on watch list on ebay now. It sure looks like the one you have there. It fits a mid 60s Chevy truck.

The little ball studs- those may be a little tougher to find, though one of the pull-your-own-part yards seems to always have plenty of that era Chevy trucks on hand. I have already taken a look at the pedals themselves but they always seem to be pretty trashed by the time they get to those places. but the mount piece still should be ok.

Thanks to all for helping me out on this!

I just finished looking on ebay- 7.50 for a pair of NOS ball studs and the pedals are common too. Another piece of the puzzle falls into place...
