I just got a power-lock from the rear dana 27 of a 63 scout. I think its 10 spline i didnt count. Will this work in the front dana 27 of my 67 cj5? are all dana 27s created equal as far as the carrier goes? Also will it work in the front end of my cj-2a with a dana 25? I read about some sort of adapter kit being nesessary. Thanks..

If the gear ratio is right the Scout rear Powerlock will work in a Jeep front 27. You will need to remove the thrust buttons or the axle shafts will not slide in far enough. There are modifications that need done to fit in a 25 but can be done. Not a fan of it myself but if no other options...
    And it's CASE, NOT carrier.

no it's a different size case if it's not the right gear

That's not entirely true. Not sure where or if there is a case break on a 27, but it can be the wrong gear ratio and still be the right case. (Dana 44: 4.10, 4.27, 4.57, 4.88, 5.38 are all different gear ratios but use the same case for example.)

Going to edit myself here, you can't change just the ring gear or pinion gear and change the ratio, they are a matched pair. And the post about the case is still true FWIW.

Both of those previous posts were confused me...

I'd have to double check to verify but iirc the 27 case break is 3:73 up to 3.31 ish and 4.27 to 5:38.
    Fwiw a Dana 44 is actually 3.92 to 5:38 and 3.73 to 2.54.
Just for info purposes the case break on a 30 is 3.54 to 2.54 and 3.73 to 5.38. The ring gear flange is in a different location due to drive pinion diameter differences.

what nick said is true with the case breaks on the 27. one if not both the case halves would be slightly different because of the different thickness of the gears i believe. at least that is how it was on my 44
