    The 1960 Willys parts Jeep:

I want to swap the Meyers top--this is a Meyers, right--to my 69. I've seen them referred to as both Meyers and Orville, I think. I know I need to use the windshield from the 60 too, because my 69 has a post 76 windshield on it. Will there be any issues swapping this windshield onto the 69 body?

I'm also trying to determine what is stock on the 60. This dash cluster almost looks like something out of a late 60's-early 70's Chevy pickup...

...and what the heck is this thing? I snapped these photos right after I dropped the Jeep off at my buddy's place an hour or so out into the desert, so I haven't had a chance to investigate...

These arent the stock seats, are they?

I also want to swap the fenders from the 60 to the 69. They are sitting behind the Jeep and barely visible here, but they are in excellent condition as is the grill. I assume the fenders will be a simple bolt-on swap, correct? No changes in body style?

The tub is in such great shape, I may eventually even swap it over too! Gotta love these southwest desert trucks!

The dash (less the instrument bezel thingy) looks like its from an M38A1. Yep, thats the master light switch used on military vehicles. Tub looks like it started life as an M38A1 as well. Battery box on the cowl, covered over slave cable hole, split windshield glass. Backside of the grill in the first picture looks like it has the ledges for the front blackout lights. The there are large holes in the rear for the indented tail lights and no tailgate, fuel tank sump, I'd say you have an M38A1 tub. Cannot see the front shackles. They were reversed on the M38A1.

    Hope this helps.

The best part is that my M1165 that was produced sometime after 2006 has exactly the same master light switch. If it ain't broke...

Yes, that's a Meyer cab. The windshield will fit, though the reduced visibility through the small glass may be a comedown after the later windshield. The tub and dash are clearly M38A1. The gas filler is also M38A1. Mil parts are not a bad thing - they tend to be sturdier than the civilian parts, but you might be better off to sell them to to a military collector and find other CJ parts.

The fenders will fit, although the early M38A1 fenders with the diagonal seam are too valuable to use on a civvy Jeep. The later M38A1 fenders are just like CJ fenders, though I would suspect they were made of heavier material. Yes, it's a Chevy pickup dash module. Hard to say about the seats - early Jeeps had 'slab' buckets and different seat brackets from the later Jeeps. The seats may just be recovered, though the back of the passenger seat looks broken down.

You can sorta see the round indentation on the passenger side filled with bondo in the last pic to the right of the lower door hinge.

Look closely at the frame. If the front spring pivots are forward, the front frame rails are boxed from the bumper to the firewall and there's an odd square plate on top of the crossmember just behind the front seats then the whole jeep is a 1960 M38A1. Keep the top and sell the rest for about $800 to $1000.

This is exactly why I joined this site...thanks for your help everyone! I gave $400 for the Jeep and it has a clean NV title. I will be out to my buddy's tomorrow to work on another project but I will definitely investigate further. I'll let you know what I find regarding the frame, shackles, etc.

The instrument cluster looks like my '72 Blazer dash cluster and the steering wheel is out of an earlier Chevy truck.

...makes sense...the PO said it had a Chevy 305 in it. There's no motor or trans in it now, but there is a Dana 18 in pieces in the back.

Glove box also reaffirms M38A1 status.

What kind of steering is in this thing? If you are interested in selling parts from the steereing wheel to the steering box let me know. Can you get some pictures from the end of the steering column to the box? THX--Derral--

Went out and dug into the parts Jeep today. I had trailered it out to my friend's and dropped it off a few weeks ago. I knew there was a bunch of stuff in the back, but this thing turned out to be a treasure chest! You guys were right, it's definitely an M38A1. Started rooting through it and found:

    5 carbureters...Rochesters, Carter and Motorcraft

    3 alternaters...

Never installed Monroe gas shocks, D18 parts, couple starters, misc junk...

    T90 case and parts...

Adapter plate to mate T90 to Chevy bell...lengthened T90 input shaft maybe?

    Couple of power steering pumps...

And this stuff was in the under-seat tool box:

It was mentioned that the M38A1 fenders have the diagonal seam and are too valuable to use on my 69...these fenders definitely have that seam--but now that I know what that is, I realize that my 69 has the same fenders--and someone hacked the fronts of them off!

    Here's the grille...

And a couple shots of the power steering setup for Fisherman...note the housing to protect the hydraulic lines and the steering shaft routed through the motor mount bracket...

There was more...coils, ballast resistors, points still in the cardboard box, delco distributor cap, shift knobs, T90 top with shifter and forks, etc, etc...It was like being on Storage Wars, where you get a quick look at the contents of a unit but don't know how you did until you start rummaging through the stuff!

My steering swap on my 69 was run through the motor mount also. I don't care for it, looks real butched.

Gotcha. Was wondering about that as I've seen this style on many of the CJ's on the forum. Thanks for the info...

    I agree...does cut down on U-joints though...

Looks like they removed the front cross member and welded in a new one further forward probably to accommodate a bigger engine. Also looks like they used a stick welder. Would be hard to return frame to stock. Tub looks to be in good condition.

The long input shaft for the T90-Chevy adapter was used on 6 cyl Jeep trucks & wagons.

BTW I like the 21 year old road atlas!

Mine as well, If I wanted to put a winch on the front (which I do) I will have to extend the front somehow for it to sit there. I have a sbc engine in mine.
