I am trying to understand, they concept of the steering knuckle lube
I know the ring and pinion have to have gear oil, and there is not a seal to seperate this oil from running out of the gaskets at the knuckle
so with the Knuckle pudding, does this just get smeared into the socket only
    just a little corn-fused

The FSM says to use #1 grease. Apparently, there is quite a bit of confusion on what exactly this is. Do a search here, and you will find alot of good information. I have used a product called Mobilith. It has the consistency of grease but is liquid enough to run. So far so good, no leaks.
If you just use grease, it will get slung to the outside of the knuckle and not lube the u-joint. If you use gear lube, it will properly lube everything, but will leak from the seals. This is the reason for the gear lube/grease mixture. You want it to lube everything, but not leak. Seems to me to be a consistency thing.
    Hope this helps.

Yeah that pretty much covers it.. It's a matter of being viscous enough to not leak out through the knuckle seals but still fluid enough to make it to the upper king pin bearing and creep into the u joint bearings.. I usually pack the bearings in grease then use the knuckle puddin'....

There are seals in the differential that seperate the gear lube from the knuckle lube in the D25 & D27 axles, see part # 15 in the exploded view.
