I know there are lots of different factors, but what is a "ballpark" estimate on a complete inside/outside paint job is minimal bodywork is required? Are we talking 1500$ or 3500$ or what? Thanks.

Color change or not? What's the condition of the paint now? Original paint? Rust?

A "real" paint job will cost in the $3000-4000 range. That is, you drop it off at the shop, and come back in a few days and pick it up.

Most body shops do collision work, and won't want your all-over repaint job. If you get an outrageous quote from a shop, that's likely why.

A one-day job (at one of the production shops that specialize in all-over paint jobs like Maaco, Earl Scheib or One-Day) can be a good option if you do all the prep. I've done a couple of cars that way, and you get a decent value. The more prep you do yourself, the better it comes out.

This book http://www.amazon.com/How-Paint-You...4227/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1319806210&sr=8-1 covers the issues well, and covers the one-day paint job in more detail than I can here.

Just a suggestion, If you are not looking for show quality in your finished product. I have rattle caned a jeep in the past that turned out real nice. My brother is a painter, and he suggested that I just spray paint it. He took some type of chemical and poured it on a towl and wiped the whole jeep down. He said that it removes all the dirt, grease and grime off the body so the primer and paint would stick, I then sprayed it in primer and spray painted it. I would do it again, it turned out that nice! of course it didnt have that clear coat shine that a real paint job would have, but we are talking 150-200 bucks compared to 3000, 4000 thousand. Its all in the prep, prep, prep!!

like they all said, it depends on what you want. a factory quality paint job is just that, quality. you should know that there is more to paint a FACTORY type finish than it looks to be. there is a lot of crud captured between the fenders, grill & tub so the front sheetmetal & windsheild frame need to come off so these areas can be properly prepped. if this is what you are looking for then i suggest not taking it to a collision shop but to find an independent in your area that will paint the components & the rolling tub after YOU disassemble it & bring the jeep to them. find some one who restores tractors to help you. i do it all the time for people & charge hours plus materials. independents are more willing to work with individuals. everybody wins. now, if your jeep is a mud hog, then rattle can it. you can get a fan nozzle for the can that will surprise you how good it will spray.
hey Tim you bring back memories of my youth. late at night after the ionosphere dropped i could pick up far away radio on my AM & remember Earl Sheib advertising "I'll paint ANY car for $199.95!" those were the days! good luck with the paint.

AM DXing eh? I had a lot of fun with that when I was growing up. I had a long wire and could hear stations on the east coast from southern California in the winter. I also picked up the Mexican superstations - there were some 100kW stations there. I remember listening to Wolfman Jack on XERB back in the day http://www.xerbradio.com/

BTW Earl Sceib painted my VW Squareback for $39.95 in 1972. They had just raised their prices from $29.95, where it had been for a long time. "I'll paint any car for $29.95 - no ups, no extras!"

Guy that did the bedliner in my '05 Dakota said he would do my Willys in bedliner. Would make for one tough skin on it, plus undercoating and all.
