    Mr. Gasket 1651 shifter boot:

Works well. This may be the same boot that Patrick recommended earlier. Vastly better than the low quality Omix boot sold by the Jeep retailers - see torn-repaired-torn boot in picture.

Easy to install. Cut the the tip off of the boot (seen in picture) so that it will slip over the CJ shifter stalk. Punch holes for the screws with a paper punch. Lube up the stalk with silicone spray, and walla.

It's a little thing, but that torn boot was bugging me.

I had one of those Omix boots and I swear it crumbled/ripped the first time I used it. I made a replacement boot from a scrap of upholstery vinyl. I didn't even have to sew it,I used super glue to glue the seam and it came out great. I'm thinking of trying to sell them to Omix :)

Nice! I had an Omix/Crown boot given to me new in the package for my daughter's '70 CJ. It's been installed and protected by a full soft top since installation and the whole Jeep has been under cover. Only driven twice and not shifted much. It's already falling apart....

I'll have to try one of those.

Pete72, that vinyl boot looks good! Very resourceful.

The fit of the Omix (Crown?) boot is ok - except that the holes don't line up, but that's easy to fix and is covered by the trim plate. But the rubber quality is really terrible, and tears just from being deformed by the shifter position - no shifting needed. The Mr. Gasket boot is much better quality rubber. The hole for the stalk looks too small, but it stretches over the stalk just fine.

    Tim,

Thanks for that! I have been through 3 of the T-15 boots and they all ripped after a few weeks.

I suspect I'm using the one that came with the Jeep. I don't remember replacing it, and I don't have one in my junk pile.

Original one here too. I cleaned it up and it looks like new. It's made of some kind of vinyl not rubber.

Had boot problems with my old CJ2A and then with my present CJ5.

Got the best boot with thick pliable rubber.....from a marine supply store. Evidently boats need good quality to withstand salt and sea.

    Really nice and fit well.
