I'm going to rebuild a D18 one of these days but I don't know how long it may sit before it gets installed. How should I treat the parts for what could be long time storage. Bearings, gears, etc. Thanks guys.

An easy way would be to lube it up well with LPS 3 or some other long lasting oil, get a plastic storage tub at Wal Mart that the case will fit in, and then bag the case with a couple dessicant cachets in it, and put into the tub.

Should last a long time that way. You could also fill the tub with oil, and submerge the case in it......

I had Herm rebuild my T-case and tranny 4 years ago  and I just ducked taped the shift holes with plastic and stuck my heap in a vinyl shed. I finally got it moved into the garage so I can get back to it. chainsawguy Guts still looked good.

LPS-3. Great Stuff! Then wrap with cloth and/or plastic sheeting to keep the dust and dirt from getting to it and sticking and making a mess. Come to think of it, the vinyl backed canvas sheets that HF sells for painting drop cloths would probably be ideal for wrapping it.

LPS-3 works so well that I use it on my larger tools that are left outside and I use it to undercoat my new vehicles. I also thoroughly coat the bottoms of door panels, etc and inside the passenger compartment air intake and other areas that tend to accumulate water and then rust out.

I think the idea of filling the tub with oil & submerging the case in it has great potential for turning your storage shed into the Exxon Valdez...
