I've been thinking about converting my 3B to low cowl / hood, but thought I'd ask before starting the cowl chop to see if there are any issues I may have overlooked.
There seems enough clearance under the hood and I have an MB hood, grill & windshield to use, it seems quite straight forward, as in removing the added cowl sections either side to raise it, but will feel more happy once I've asked the experts here:)

If you have an F-head your carb will not clear the hood. That is the whole reason for the high hood.

The dashboard will needing a change as well as the windshield.
If you do the change, save the old parts if they are useable, there's always somebody wanting to go the other direction on their Jeeps.

That looks good, but my 3B has SOA, so there's already enough clearance on the fenders.

I said 3B, but its actually a J54 diesel and apart from the fenders (which I hate BTW) the rest of the tub looks more or less the same as a 3B.

There seems to be enough room under the hood for clearance, but I figured a slight body lift would solve that problem if my calculation was wrong, not that I really want any more lift.

Thanks for all your comments guys, they are much appreciated, I'm still not 100% sure if its going to happen yet, its one of those thoughts I keep having and it wont go away.
Apart from the metalwork I'm hoping my wife would be able to chop the bestop down & stitch it back.

It would probably be cheaper and much, much easier to source the 3B parts you need to keep the high hood line. Some think the 3B us fugly, but I prefer to think of it as 'distinctive.' :)

BTW that MB hood is worth some good coin to a restorer, that sale would make a good chunk toward said 3B parts.

I had thought about replacing just the J54 fenders with 3B ones , but much prefer low cowl Jeeps if I'm really honest. ;).

How much hood clearance for the engine is there? I'm assuming you have measured and feel there is enough. Got any pictures of the diesel?

Glenn, I've sent you a PM. There's plenty of engine clearance, but some things would need adapting like the large air filter, the brake servo looks like it will be tight and being 24 V one of the battery's will need relocating. Its the non turbo engine.

The dash panel ends where the cowl raised section starts, so I cant see any problems with having to alter the dash.
