I'm thinking about using a HEI dist., specifically the one from DUI. I know that you need to do a little grinding on the intake to get it to fit. However I just bought an Offenhauser aluminum manifold to go with the Powerjection unit and I'm not sure I want to grind on it. Can someone who has done this conversion post up a pic of where they had to grind on their manifold so I can get an idea of where and how much?

    Hey John,
I know I have a different motor (231) but I did not have to grind or change bolts.

I purchased one from dui great company. I personaly do not like the large size of the HEI. I retured my distributor with no problems and rebuilt and installed my old stock with a pretonix ignition istead of points. I believe it will give the same preformance as an HEI with the proper coil. Smaller distributor, I think the stock distributor looks a lot cleaner under the hood due to its smaller size. I would also look at mallory distributors for a high quality electronic distributor, smaller size cleaner look.

Do you have the Dual Plane or the 360 intake? I'm asking because I have both, and several HEIs, and a motor that does not have an intake bolted down to. I could pop them on lift it off and do some spec measuring for you.

I didn't have to do anything other than the button head on the Kenne Bell intake... fat chance on getting another one of those :)

    Posi,

The pic is of an Offy manifold, HEI and the required button head fastener. Of course I wanted to minimize material removed. The gap you see between manifold and cap is about .030". Really it's a lot of pulling the distributor in and out until the you are comfortable with the gap.

And if you look real close I did grind the bolthead too. After torquing it of course.

In all it's not that big of a deal. The spark difference is worth it.

jzeber: What HEI did you use?

CJ Joe: Is that a DUI distributor?

Warloch: I have the dual plane Offy. Looking at the DUI HEI dist.

    Hey John,
Since mine is an EF I went to the bone yard and pulled one. Original equipment. My engine is a 87'.
By the way, I will never go back to points!

    Posi,

Mine is from CRT Performance (Cape Conversions). I've been very pleased with it.

Did you check out Proform? They offer an oddfire HEI for about $100 less than DUI. Summit carries them and they're new units.

Looks like they only list dist. for a 231 OF. It would probably fit, but their (Proform's) website has no direct contact info to confirm. Anyone out there using one of these? How about some feedback. The fuel injection I'm using needs a tach signal from the coil, so I'm wondering if that might be a problem with this distributor. There is a Summit Racing store 35 miles from me, so I may go by and check one out. Bummer you can't contact Proform direct.

The HEI we use in the 225 is for a 231 OF - don't know about Proform, but it 'should' work.
