Dana 44 breather vent

I am told the breather vents are small pin holes on the outer ends of my stock 1967 d44 rear end. Facing rearward. Is this true? If so, where are they located? THey must be covered with dirt but I would like to make sure they are clear. Thank you.

Wow. I had no idea. Thank you and I will clean mine up a bit and try to locate them. Seems like water would go in easier with this style. I am just surprised they are like this.

Don't feel bad. The vast majority of these are plugged or rusted solid. Most people only find them when cleaning the housing for a major overhaul due to oil leaks
Personally I'd plug 'em up and drill and tap one of the tubes or the pumpkin and install a better breather that won't plug up as easy and can be run up high to keep contaminants out. That's a common upgrade.

On my centered 44 the vent hole is on top of the tube and located in the area shown in the photo. But on top. Actually had some kind of vent deal in it that was plugged. But the vent made finding the hole easy. I installed a king nipple and rubber tubing. Then ran the tubing up to one of the cross braces on the frame.
