OK, why the heck paint the old rig? I only use it for the trails.
Well that seems to be the way anymore. what happened to having a decent looking rig that is used for trail running?
I am no expert painter and the old 5 does not have a perfect body! but I hated coming home and washing it up after a run and it still looked dirty.

When I purchased the old CJ, the prev owner had covered the original orange paint with a attempt at Renegade purple. I did not like this. It had overspray in the fender wells and radiator and just wasn't done very nicely.
After the first summer I shot it with flat black enamel and that has gone a few year. The purple was rubbing threw in areas and I needed something harder and better to protect the body.

I searched for a color and changed my mind a few times. I hated the polished aluminum corners and lower door panels. I was a little afraid to remove them and find nothing left under them for body. Actually it wasn't that bad!
I covered under the doors with 3/16 flat plate and cleaned and sealed the area before I put it on. The back corners I am going to cover with Powdercoated corners that are ordered.

This was after the Flat black paint.

I stripped it down and removed everything I could. I took the windshield off and stripped it also. I did a little prep work on a few bad spotts in the body.

This is the Primer/Sealer. This was the best thing to do. I put two coats on, and I purchased it already tinted to almost the same color as my paint. This layed down well and made my paint come out to the exact color it was supposed to be.

Here is the 89' jeep blue.
I Shot my front bumper and frame areas along with my rollcage with a "ready to shoot" paint from my auto parts suplier. I was kind of wondering about this paint but in the end it actually is pretty good.

Here it sits waiting for some parts to show up to finish. I still need to buff it out, but it needs time to cure!

Well it was from the 89' Jeep card and said "Pacific Blue". It was a shade different from the rest of the years for mixing.
I was looking for something different. Everyone seems to be painting their rigs Red. Orange, Dark green or Lime green. I would have gone yellow but a friend of mine has a yellow one. So I looked for a bright color that would give it a clean look!
