I just purchased a 1970 CJ-5, my first jeep. The seller tells me that it will need tires. I think wheels/rims are stock.

I have not taken delivery of it yet but would like to start pricing both wheels and tires.:)
I have looked online and can not find any original manufacturer’s info on this year model.

Can someone tell me, what size tire I should be look for, if I keep the stock wheels?
(What was the size and backspacing on the original rims?)

Also can someone tell me what size the bolt pattern is on this year model? I know it is a 5 lug but is it a standard 5x5.5”

These are the specs I have on the jeep I have bought:
    Buick Dauntless 225 V6
    Warn Overdrive
    Saginaw Power Steering
    GM HEI electronic Ignition
    LED Tail Light
    LED Reverse Lights
    Dana 44 Rear Axle
    Dana 30 Front Axle

Also is there some place on the web I can locate the original specs for this year model (like manufacturer’s specs/sales brochure)?

Check the tech section and the resources section. And the bolt pattern is a 5 on 5.5 as you stated. Sounds like you have a good start. Got any pics?

The previous owner has made many modifications to this vehicle; according to the list you posted many things are not stock, but upgraded. Given that, I'm not so sure the wheels and tires are stock. Show us pics of the wheels, and give us the tire size info from the sidewall. Once we have that, we can be of more help.

You were correct. They are 31x10.50R15 LT M/S

Not sure if I like the giant tires.. I really like the old military look of thin mud tires.

I will tell you that if you can not find any others, then look at Suzuki Samurai wheels.

Same bolt pattern but narrower rim width. I put 215x75x15 Kumho tires on mine.

I am saving up for another set of 30x9.5x15's for my wide wheels - or maybe 31x10.5.15's depending on which set is cheaper at the time of purchase.

Thats not giant tires by no means. Most everyone here runs at least that size. Military as in NDT's. Those are ok for some things but suck for a lot of other things. A picture of your jeep when you get it will tell us a lot.
