So I decide to do a minor tuneup and can't get the timing set, no matter which way I turn the dist the timing marks don't line up. I'm thinking I need to remove the dist and see if it was installed incorrectly/off?

Are you sure you had the timing light reading from the #1 plug wire

does your timing change at all when you move the dist (it should) there is another bolt up under the dist with another adjustment slot if you need more adjustment

There is a bolt at the block and one directly under the dist head

Thanks, I'll feel around for the two bolts. Which ever bolt I loosened needed a 7/16th " wrench.

thinking they both are the same size. goes like this dist, plate bolts to the bottom of the dist, plate bolts to motor. a mirror would come in handy to spot it;)

Welll, I found the second bolt, it is on the right side of the distributor, the one I loosened originally was on the bottom of the distributor. The problem is that as soon as I tried loosening the one on the side the head of the bolt sheared off, now I guess I have to remove the distributor and remove the broken bolt. I was planning on selling this thing but don't feel right selling it with a problem that isn't fixed, the fun continues.
