CJ 5 ride height after replacing springs

I am posting this only because it might be of interest. I recently replaced my springs with a new set of stock springs from the dreaded JC W. They came in due time for about $80 each and both sets were American made which surprised me. I know that I had looked for a while to try and determine how much lift I was going to end up with, or to put it another way, how much the old springs were sagging. Couldn't seem to find any hard numbers so here are mine.

Right Front before:
32 1/4 Fender to ground
2 1/4 Axel to bump stop
Right front after:
34 1/4 Fender to ground
4 1/4 Axel to bump stop

Left Front before:
32 3/4 Fender to ground
2 3/4 Axel to bump stop
Left front after:
34 1/8 Fender to ground
4 Axel to bump stop

Right Rear before:
34 3/4 Fender to ground
3 3/4 Axel to bump stop
Right Rear after:
35 1/2 Fender to ground
5 Axel to bump stop

Left Rear before:
35 Fender to ground
4 1/4 Axel to bump stop
Left Rear after:
36 Fender to ground
5 1/4 Axel to bump stop

The jeep still looks like it is sagging to the rear. I know it spent many, many years with a very heavy hard top on it. It has the body lean so many deal with but it is surprising that it is not reflected in the bump stop numbers. It is quite a bit more flexy, though with my shot springs that was never much of an issue. It looks to me like the shocks are now too short for the application so I guess those were replaced with the old springs in tough shape.

looks good. When I lifted my JEEP with a 3" lift and stock shackles it lifted her 5.75" to begin with. Now that things have settled we are 4.25" taller than before the lift. Can't tell by the picture if he shocks are too short. Sorry.

Was it 80$ for each spring or a set of two?

No sorry, $80 (more or less) each. I don't know if this is an appropriate forum or not (please remove if it isn't) but here is video I made so that I could watch the springs flex as I drive. I find this sort of thing endlessly fascinating.

Awesome info to have! Thank you very much! I was thinking of going with a 1" lift, but maybe a new set of stockers will do me just fine.....

 

I priced a Ranch suspension with a 2.5" lift for $144.00 per set. Was just wandering.

if your looking for rancho 2&1/2" then i have a set of front springs id sell for $50.00 plus shipping. there like new. had them on my jeep for a while but then found a great deal on a front and back set of trailmaster springs. so there just sitting. if your interested then just email and ill send pics with the numbers. all you would have to do then is find the back ones. or use shackles, but i have no use for them. just checked and the numbers are 44062, they have the urethane bushings in them.
