ok guys got a good one for you , first time for this one............. my dauntless 225 with HEI, is not firing the 3 plugs on the driver side , you can unplug all three from the cap (AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!) and it still runs, the exhaust is cold from that bank and does not sound good at all -spudering , unplug any from the pass side and it will die/ stumble like normal.drove it about 50miles on 3 cyl.back to camp , I did have a spare hei module in the glovebox, switched it out but did nothing.........

other than not firing, the motor sound fine bearing wise and I have full pressure.
thinking maybe somthing with the buick valve train assy? maybe a flat cam?but all on one side???????? I think a compression test is in order tomorrow.help?anybody ? I am waiting for orders on how to proceede. just throw it out there thankx,

no,have run it this way for a few years , i've not changed plugs /wires/ timing . this weekend on the trail we did cleaned out the cap, rotor and sanded the contacts, with no change ...........always plenty of power.timing is steady ....... even if the timing chain was bad or it skipped a tooth it would not affect one whole bank ,,,,would it?

    Hmmm. Just a thought.

While it's running, try to spray some carb cleaner down the throat on the "cold" side of the engine to see if it fires on those cylinders. Suddenly having the whole side of the engine die sounds like maybe you have a piece of crud in the fuel system on that side.

Yep. Mine did that several times with the 2G. It'd pick the cylinders back up at about 1K RPM though. Remove the idle mix screw on that bank and blow some air through it and it straightened out..

yes. a very nice spark at the plugs,
will try to blow it tomorrow.
NOTE; I run an Offy 360 dual plenum the one with the divider with the little square notch taken out of it , then to an adapter to run the 2G.

    thanks worth a try.

I have a 390 cfm I could throw on there to check it out.

If you've got good spark on both banks then it definitely points to a fuel issue. common to get some gunk in the jets or idle mixture passages on one bank. Do like Patrick mentioned and blow some air through it, bet you will see an improvement.

sounds like bad piston return springs. they like to go bad one bank at a time.R) i agree with the others it sounds like a piece of junk in the carb

mx -, I would't think it was the piston return spring 'cause it is puffing cold air out the exhaust.

I really surprised that little motor has lasted this long (over 10 years ).I ran it on 4 qts of oil for about 8 years 'cause thats whats stamped on the dipstick. and incase you haven't noticed ................my jeep has a way of finding the WORST angles to run at on some trails and has lost oil pressure ,and spit raw oil out the exhaust ,but the trail was completed under it's own power.

    I'm stupid, I know ,I can't help it.

You might want to take it apart and clean the bowl out. Might as well put a kit in it. Only takes about 15 minutes..

When you drain the oil, change the filter, & refill, how much do you add, and where does it read on the stick?

    FSM says 5Qt. w/filter..
