I just went out and checked the gears on my Tux park frame and they are 4.27. I believe I have 3.73 in my 67 CJ5. I still have to do a tooth count because down the line the tags were removed. I plan on running a 225 in my Jeep but I'm wondering if I should swap axles from the frame to my Jeep. I don't plan on running anything more than a 32 in. tire on mine so I am wondering if it's worth the hastle. As I have mentioned in other posts I really don't want a crawler, they are great on the trails, but suck at the dunes. (IMO) Didn't most of the Mark IV TP's have lockers? The front in the TP is a 27A without lockouts. I have never seen this setup, Is it just a full time front axle? The 44 on the TP frame looks like a early design, it has all the fins on the front of the diff, the diff looks like a sturdier casting on my 67? What would you guys do? Thanks in advance.

The 27a without lockouts is stock. These jeeps never came with lockout hubs from the factory, they were dealer or aftermarket installed. You can change this if you want quite easily. As for the 4.27's they should work fine with 32" tires and be ok i nthe sand.

I’m running 33” tires with 4.27’s and my engine is spinning about 3100 RPM to do 65 MPH down the highway.
You should be able to find the gear ratio stamped into the side of the ring gear. Finding that is a little easier than trying to count teeth. ;)

I would go with the 4.27s. They were fine on my '73 304 with ca 30" tires. The engine speed at 80 with 32s is only 3500 RPM - well within the operating range of the 225 if in good condition. People pay big money for low (high numeric) gear ratios. The 4.27s will enhance the Jeep's value, and are a good all-around ratio IMO.

The limited slip Powerlock was a popular option - look in the rear axles. No locker was available from the factory.

If it were up to me, I would run the 4.27's with the V6, (or 4.56's with overdrive) and a 33" tire. This would net me a comfortable highway speed without over revving my engine, and still allow me to run a trail with the occasional challenge.

My dreams will become reality some day.R)

to me the 4:27 ratio would be perfect with the 134 f head so with the v6 should be awesom!

I have 4.88's with 33's. I also have an overdrive but even if I did not have the OD I would not trade the low end I get with the 4.88's for the 3.73's.

I missed what kind of tranny you had. I think it's best to consider the system as a whole rather than just the individual components.

FWIW, I have a 225, T90 and 4.27's and 33's and I think it's great for freeways and for logging roads with hills, which is what I enjoy in the NW.

Going in sand? From what I know about sand (not much), spend the money on horsepower and tires.

Or just cool beverages and take out the passenger seat and enjoy watching other people break stuff...

I have the T-86 but I am swapping it for a T-14 out of a Commando. I picked up a complete 225,T-14,D18 w/warn overdrive for $150 at the scrap yard. I found that the 4.27's in the TUX frame has a locker so at this point they are definately getting swapped. I had hopes that I would eventually put a body on the frame but I only have $ for one right now. After this one is done(which they never are) I going to get serious about finding myself a 3B.

Since you have an OD run the 4.27's. I can cruise the freeway all day at 65mph with an OD and 4.88's.
