This seems like a dumb question, but here it goes. I have a Meyer hardtop and both the side windows have been removed by the P.O. I have both windows and black gaskets, but I'm not sure how to put them back in. The only way I can think to put them in is to pry on them, which will break the glass. Does anybody have a trick for putting the glass back in?

    Thanks,

    Matt

I have a hardtop for my Tuxedo Park that I would remove every summer. Since the top is rather flexible, my windows would occasionally pop out.

The best thing that I have found that works is to locate some rope that will fit inside the window gasket. Install the rope into the gasket groove, be sure that the gasket is mounted onto the glass beforehand. Slide one side of the window and gasket assembly with the rope ends onto the opening with the rope ends pulled to the inside, press the window towards the opening, work the seams in by pulling on the rope ends. It is very helpful to have a helper here. (Be sure to pull on the ropes inwards if the window is on the outside). Make sure that the rubber is warm and flexible enough or it will be a bugger to fight with. It is also helpful to have a spray bottle of water with just a little bit of dish soap to help in lubricating the gasket. This method is how some glass companies install rear windows onto pickups.

The only other way I have heard is by using a plastic spoon/tool that is used on bicycle tires to dismount/remount tires on the rim.

I am sure that there are others on here who have similar or different ideas. My way works for me, it may or may not work the same for others.

When I worked glass a few years back, we used a simular method as above. Instead of dish soap and water we used glass cleaner and the more lube the better. Have a buddy apply light pressure pushing the window in from the outside. And rope it in slowly. Be careful in the corners, you don't want to tear the gasket.

Here are the tools you will need
Cup has soap and water mix 50/50, paint brush to put it on with, the putty knife is made of plastic as not to scratch the glass. Knife to cut the rubber, and last the lockstrip insert tool.

Using the tool to put lockstrip in.
