In the process of re-gearing and rebuilding my axles, I'm considering locking my 27. I guess locking isn't the correct term, since I think a limited slip would be better. Does the 27 hold up alright with a limited slip? I don't want to break lots of stuff... My Jeep gets driven on the highway a fair amount, and usually sees trails and mud offroad. I really don't want to do a D30 swap either, well not yet anyway. Thanks in advance - Andy

All depends on your driving stye....;)

Your options are somewhat limted though - either find a used PowrLok (limited slip) or buy a LockRight (full locker).

I went with the PowrLok since at the time I didn't have power steering, and liked the more original approach of the limited slip. I'm not out to see what I can do (or break), if it comes down to it I'd rather the PowrLok slip and I'll take a strap.

If you haven't yet, I'd suggest the knuckle-stud conversion to add some strength to the knuckles, since either approach will put more stress there.

My Lockright seems work fine in my 27. Haven't had any turning problems yet. If I do, I'll just unlock the right hub, the shortest and the one with the least "flex".

Andy: I've run a P/Lok in my 27 with no major problems....over 400,000 miles on the Jeep. (Don't know how much of that is off road.....but it's been JEEPED!!). I have twisted two axles....don't know when.....found when I was packing wheel bearings. I also have chipped a tooth on one of the spider gears......changed to a one piece side gear instead of two piece, this will save chewing the end of an axle. Good Luck!! Glenn
