You can convert to discs without converting to a dual reservoir master cylinder and it can work fine. I've done it with good success. I would suggest switching though for safety purposes....

If you are running the OEM 16" tube-type rims, they will not clear the GM calipers. You can keep the stock-look with 15" rims from a '76 or later CJ, or possibly the OEM rims from a late-'70s Ford F150 with 4WD.

I can also tell you that the 15x8 painted K-H rims most definitely will not work.

Another option, but a somewhat pricey one would be to go with a custom-made rim from Stockton Wheel, or some of the other custom shops.

I bought both the 11 inch rear drum and front disc conversion from Herm. I also did his dual reservoir master cylinder conversion. He did mention the MC for front disc was diferent from the non disc one. Something about a plunger inside. I have older Western Wheels 15x10 which fit fine over the disc and drums. I believe the disc are 12 in or so. I can post a pic if needed....

The clearance issue is not with the diamter of the rotor, it is with the dimensions of the caliper and how it is positioned in relation to the centerline of the hub face. Even with the "disc brake" rims, the clearance with the GM calipers is still very close. Close enough in fact that I cleaned up the castings of my calipers a bit just for a bit of insurance.

Here's what to look for when you are shopping for rims to fit the disc conversion:

Yes. I agree. Even with the GM calipers and my wheels, there is not an issue with fitment. I was unsure until I actually mounted them.

Check my reply to thread "Rear Dana 44 upgrade". I put 4 whl discs on my stock 56 stock axles. I used stock single master cylinder but had to remove a restrictor screen inside of it otherwise the brakes would drag.
