And that is basically my question.
The Tuxedo Park models with 3-speed were column shifted.
But what about with the optional 4-speed?
I can not recall a column shifted 4-speed offered by any automaker.
Anyone know about in a TP?

:? Was the 4 speed even an option in the Mark IV? I wasn't aware of it.

I find it doubtful that it was with the marketing that they used.

2 come to mind: mercedes sedans of the 1960s early 1970s and ford econoline vans from the late 1960s. both available with 4 sp column shift

According to another page of this website, yes a 4-speed was a factory option for $169+
    http://www.earlycj5.com/tech/general/Tuxedo Park/

If I see a TP with a floor shift manual, do I assume it is the 4-speed option or a change over from a 3-speed and column shift or just a change over from column shift 4-speed?

I though it had been established that all 4cylinder 3 speed TPs were factory column shift.
V6 TPs were all floor shift, regardless.

I found this in the standard catalog of 4x4s by Robert C. Ackerson published in 2000, it says "The standard shift lever on the Tuxedo Park was column-mounted. If the optional 4-speed manual transmission was installed a floor-mounted lever was used." it also states for the tuxedo park "4-speed manual transmission (available with hurricane engine only)"

Not really. The VIN document that Zoomer put together available in the ECJ5 Tech forum and in the tech library of the page does a good job of deciphering what little info you can derive.

Some CJ-5s do have a digit indicating the engine, but none were made this early, and no CJ-5s have a digit to tell the transmission. It could only give at most the body style, sequential serial number, maybe made in Canada, and smog info.

That ebay listing makes me wonder, for being such an original tux park, it has a floor shift and a :v6: even though my book says they supposedly didn't match the two . . . . . . will we ever find an answer! R)

:? According to my sources I used to put together the Tuxedo Park reference here on the website the V6 came ONLY with a floor shifter. Nothing unusual there.

I have found a 63 Cj that is supposed to be an original MK III. It has been repainted and the seats recovered, but under the hood it appears to be Indian Ceramic and it seems to have all teh right chrome stuff. The steering wheel has been wrapped in black tape, but has Indian Ceramic peaking out around the edges.

This Jeep has 48,000 original miles and supposedly the current owner has had it for a long time. It has been garage kept and has no visible rust from the pictures I have seen.

The reason for this post is it has a 4 cylinder with a floor shifter..............

Is this correct for one of these? Do you have any idea of value? I know it is a tough question without seeing the Jeep, but the pics I have sure look like it is very straight and rust free.....just the wrong color.

And I really wonder about the shifter...........

:? So our document is not accurate or ???

I know Zoomer has some holes but from what I can see it matches Jim Allen's books for decoding. Our years are iffy in some spots but it's a work in progress.

Which makes me think, I meant to write a program to decipher Early CJ5 VINs years ago or a flowchart or something for the page. Just never got around to it. Now I could probably write it in R. Wonder if I could figure out how to get that into javascript. R)
