Looks like I've got to replace the CJ's headlite and wiper switches. Where do you guys go for quality replacements that can use the factory knobs?

I picked up a headlight switch at NAPA that was very similar to the stock switch. I suspect that many trucks from the 60's used the same style if not exactly the same switches. I also picked up a new ignition switch at Carquest that was exactly like the old one which I assume was original.

If you like tinkering--open up that headlight switch (careful for springs) they are really simple, and to a clean-up on shaft and innerds and reassemble. Mine still works like new..

A lot of switches like this are riveted together. You can drill out the rivets, repair and then reassemble with screws. I've repaired washing machine timers this way... polish the contacts and a tiny bit of white grease on the bearings. Just think about how it was put together at the factory when you reassemble.

I'll probably open it up and look at it. The switch does still feel pretty solid, with audible "clicks" when actuated. I last replaced it (and the attached circuit breaker) sometime in the late '80's...

I bought my foot high beam switch from Jungle Jims
    https://www.willysjeepparts.com/Switches.htm
no offense to him but his prices are high but it was the only place I could match the visual to the part number. I had bought 2 switches previously that did not fit my application.
I will be posting them on the classsified.

For anyone interested, I ordered my switches thru JeepDoc and they are the correct ones for stock replacement. Wiper switch (P/N 5460089) and a headlight switch (P/N 946613) arrived at my house today... FWIW my local FLAPS (Napa, Autozone, Advance Auto) could only come up with the '72 and newer switches. OBTW, whoever (Rusty?) dropped a switch on the front seat of the CJ while it was still at work I thank you very much; unfortunately it is not the correct switch. PM me and I'll get it back to you!!!

Did the wiper switch come with the knob? It looks like the light switch does, but not the wiper. Thanks

I had all new wire about 10 months ago and the switches became the weakest link. While I was replacing the ignition switch I decided to do them all since I had the dash laid down. I purchased wiper and headlight switches at Auto Zone. They had to order them and they were Painless brand. The new wiper switch was two speed with push for washers. The new headlight switch has three clicks instead of two. I have not figured that out yet but use the first two for parking and headlights.

The knobs on the new switches are not original but the old knob worked well on the headlight switch. My old wiper switch did not work and did not have a knob. I am still searching for an original.

The ignition switch is a Crown brand from O'reilly Auto Parts. The switch they had in their catalog was for earlier CJ's. I had to take it back and get one in their catalog for a 71 Jeepster since I had the spade lugs on the back.

On Crown's web site they list dealers that sell their products

    http://www.crownautomotive.net/

Either route you take (rebuild, Crown or Painless) is good. I like it that I don't have to jiggle the switch anymore.

    I believe the three position H/Lite switch is 1=dash lites 2= dash+tail/marker and 3=dash+tail/marker(park)+Head-lites.

Thanks. I could wire it that way. I never thought of having the dash lights on a separate switch.
