i think they should i havnt tried though. why wouldnt they? i had to ajust the turn stops for the 31" tires. I think the wider part is to the outside so it shouldnt matter

Anyway i got my gas tank in and all plumbed. Then it wouldnt start. My brother is good at the wiring and i suck at it so we figured out the starter sylenoid wasnt kicking in but only sometimes. So i took the starter off and cleaned out the mouse nest inside and got it running. It purs like a kitten Got a small exhaust leak somewhere but it sounds great nice and quiet but a nice rumble when reved up. I gotta make a coolant catch can out of a liquor bottle or maby an old soda bottle. Then we had trouble with the back lights. Through much trouble shooting and testing we fiound 3 bad connections and the light switch had a bad terminal. Now i just gotta got the dash back together and i can drive it

Fantastic job on a piece of history given new life. I read your entire thread and it has my own blood stirring once more. Not an easy feat these days.
You are probably all finished with the paint by now, but having read of your dilemma with getting the matte finish, I tho't I would offer my few cents worth regarding same achievements.
I seldom drag out my paint gun but every blue moon anymore, and was not aware of the changes in mixing, or the differences in paint behaviors from the old days.. I was recently given this helpful hint by a sympathetic chap with obviously more experience than I. Most paint companies are recommending a 1 to 1 mixture of reducer to paint these days due to air pollution and green laws, CA influences and ecological concerns, etc. etc. Anyway, I explained that my paint (acrylic enamel) was definitely going on dry, however I was using a medium to long dry time to temperature reducer mix. He offered that I should try going to a 3 to 1, or even as high as a 4 to 1 mixture reducer to paint. I tried this just a couple months ago and (and all with old paint) and achieved excellent results, even impressing the neighbors who seem to be your best (or worst) critics. In their skepticism they are quick to point out any flaws, mishaps, and SU's. There weren't any, none! I had to act as if it was an everyday occurrence, of course, even surprising myself with the results. I hope this tip helps others I know how disheartening it is to put all that work into something and end up with only mediocre results resulting in more work.
I can't wait to see your pics taken outside of the completed result. But then, they are never really finished, are they.

I'm jealous!

 

Took it out for the first time this morning! Before the snow hit. I drove it around for half an hour or so to get it up to temperature and change the oil. Got a bunch of little thinks to fix. I had to tighten up the radiator hoses were leaking. Brakes i gotta pump once before the pedal comes up so i gotta bleed em more i guess. The e brake needs the right size spring because the cable is sticky. And it runs a little rough im going to change the plug wires because they were sparking I also took it up the road and ran it through the gears everything works which is great. I found an old coolant catch can that i decided to run and installed it rather than an old bottle. I still might sometime if i find somthing i like. The color looks sweet out in the light! And the crappy spots are barely blips on the radar. And it sounds awesome too. But the way i have the duals more smoke comes out of one than the other so i might cut in a baffleto divert some of it. The green you see in the tub is padding i glued down. The carpet will be black. And i made the compass shift knb. Im not sure if itll hold up i just jb welded it to a nut. Ill try epoxy if it comes off

 

They dont bother me right now so there staying but who knows they might start to bother me now that you brought it up R)

I think i might make some more and sell them. I couldnt find anything like it online. I saw the compass in welf-mart for 2$ i figured id try it I double nutted the bottom so i wouldnt screw it on too far and poke the plastic. When you do it use a nut with a wide knurled base for better adhesion

 

Damn you're fast. Do you have a job? That top is nice, a bit unique. A friend of mine is selling a '55 with that model top and was going to let me swap my Meyers top straight across before he sold it 'til his B-I-L convinced him it was rare and worth $3,000. And........he believes it! Nice work.

 

that sux. Around here they can be had for like 300$ . A job ... sometimes Im a carpenter for a new company so were kinda slow. I usto work full time for a company along with two other older guys. I quit last winter on a spur of the moment kinda thing and lazed around for two months or so finishing up progects. Then i got a call to do a countertop for those two other guys who had quit right after me and went on their own. So i went to work for them and its just the three of us most of the time. We were real busy all summer but things just came to a hault and were not getting any more jobs. So the main guy bought an old house and were totally fliping it right now. Puting on a second story and two car garage with master suite above it. But anyway its real relaxed and we just kinda work when we want to. But i sell jeep parts on ebay alot that i get from the junk yard too. I get alot done even when im working full time too. Im 23 still live at home and have no girlfreind so iv got more time and money than most guys i guess

 

had a guy come and put my windsheild glass in today he thought it was gonna be cake but he had trouble with it. But we got it in without breaking it. Got a question about the footman loops on the hood. The front one is large and it latches to the windsheild when the hood is up. i figured the small back one was for when you folt the windsheild down it doesnt bounce around but they dont line up. the winsheild just rests right on the hood. Doesnt seem right. not that im going to be ever folding it down with the hardtop on anyway
