One of my wife's relatives is trying to sell an old CJ5 ('62). She needs the money so I'm trying to help her out so she doesn't get ripped off.

Now, I only really know that it's a '62 but here's what she told me.

This is located in Ohio I think. It's been stored in that barn for a LONG time. It probably would need some help to get running because it's say so long but it looks to be in decent shape.

I personally would say $2000 but I don't know how much those hardtops are worth.

First she needs to get a title. Even if she goes to the state and tells them the title is lost and she is applying for it. The problem will be if the "owner" is in a home and has alzheimers to the point she has lost power of attourney. But maybe whom has POA can take care of it.

But you have to be careful doing this. If the aunts assets were given to the home for her care, they may take the jeep if they know aobut it.

But with a title, it's worth way more than no title. I know states are all different but in Florida if you don't have a title, the vehicle is almost worthless. Offically, you can't even buy major parts without the seller having a title on the vehicle you are buying the part off of.

Now if they check it out or not, who knows..................

It also depends on if it's running or not. Might be worth taking it to an old mechanic to see if it will run.

BUt if the top is in good shape, it can run and the frame and body is in good shape, I think she is asking a little but to low for it. I'd say more like $3000.

But what a car like this is worth is what someone will pay for it. On eby she might get twice that as a running "barn find".

no offense, but that seems to be asking alot. in pa my father and i have been seeing alot in that shape go for 500-600 bucks with titles and spare parts. about $1500 for running ecj-5 with plow. i guess if you find the right buyer you could get more.

I've heard of halfway decent factory hardtops selling for $500 alone so I think that's going to be a big selling point. I'll have her get a title and ask if there's any way to have somebody see if it runs.

Ok, did some more research. Apparently this vehicle is in NY, not Ohio. The DMV from NY doesn't issue titles for vehicles from before 1972. They issue transferable registrations. I'll check to see if they have a copy of that.

I would be happy to get anything over $600-700 if it were mine.

Jeeps are not very expensive in the northeast - everyone expects something that old to be a rust bucket. Just not a sellers market... owning an old car is a lot more trouble than in the sunbelt. If you could get it to run and drive, that would reduce the risk to the buyer a lot, and then it would sell for more. Does it come with a plow? I'd probably offer $500, and maybe go up a few hundred from there. If it ran, I'd maybe offer $750-800. I'm not a fan of the F4 or hard top, so you might get more if you find the right buyer.

hmm... There's a bunch of people bugging her for years about selling it but nobody has thrown out a price yet.

I'll tell her to tell the guys that have been bugging her that it's up for $1500. There may be some dreamer that's willing to pay for it. If that doesn't work she can advertise for a $1k and take the first offer over $750

I wold really try to get a title, Here in NM it is really a pain to get a vehicle title without the PO signing over the title. On the other hand it is really simple for the PO to get a replacement title . Simply show an old registration and photo ID and for $5 they give a replacement title. I know I wold pay much less for a vehicle wo a title

Through it on Ebay, I bet you'll get $2000 for it. I know a title isn't need to register a vehicle that old in CT.

In Michigan you can easily get a title, but things sell much easier with it as people don't realize how easy a title is to get.

From that picture alone that jeep would probably fetch 2k+ in this area, more if you could hear it run. A CJ7 with the Body falling off will fetch 1500 if it runs....

    Location, location, location....
