I have aquired a much repaired/modified CJ5 here in Thailand. The registration book shows it was imported in 1971 and the Firewall serial number plate reads 2405024-37508 Jeep Corporation, Toledo, Ohio. This number doesn't seem to match any data that I can find for CJ5 and may of course be from a completely different vehicle. Many such frauds occur here for the convenience of registering a vehicle which has no proper title. If anyone can decode this serial number I would be pleased to know. Many parts have been altered/replaced and it's hard to put a date on this Poor Old Jeep.

Thanks for that Bill. Knowing my luck the frame number will be under the bracket which has been welded on to take the right-hand-drive steering box conversion!

2405024-37508 I wonder if these are just the original vin number backwards/jumbled up. 8305 is in the 37508. Coincidence?

OK, I'm going after these frame numbers because the frame is just about the only original part!

Frame numbers are between the front shock mount and the rear spring eye in the forward position.

Mine is under the cowl/tub area. Others are farther forward.

Hope this may help; here's a pic of a serial number stamped on the front right frame rail, as if you had the hood up and were standing next to the passenger-front tire looking down into the engine bay:

You can also sorta see the rear front spring mount as a reference point. Hope this isn't where the steering conversion is welded, lol. :) HTH
