Just a quick plug for Jeep data collection: we have a database of vin info collected to assist Jeepers in thier search for the build dates of their Jeeps. If you have a build date sticker on your dash (pre 1972) and you don't mind sharing for the cause please post your info here. if you would like, you can PM it to Zoomer, WYOMIKE, or myself and we will enter it in the database.

if you ever wondered how we post the probable build dates of Jeeps in this thread, we take your serial # and compare it to the list to get you as close as we can.

when, through the course of collecting we manage to narrow down a Member's build date to an exact month, we try to notify that member so they have it for their records.

we also collect data about the features of your Jeep so that questions such as "when did the arched windshield first appear on a CJ5?" can be researched for probable answer.

we have kept the collection to all Jeeps built prior to the 72 model year due to the ready availability of vin decoders for the later years. if you want to post your info on a later Jeep, it may help other members who are looking for the info.

Alright, here's my contribution to the cause:

4. Factory Front Shackle Reversal (Yes/No) (Early CJ5's came with the front axle shackles to the rear) Nope
5. Model 25 or Model 27 front axle 25 axle, took an hour of cleaning to find it. Even found the little gear tag ID tag, 43-8 5.38
6. Snorkel Cutout on hood (Yes / No) Yup
8. Large or small front turn signals Little, I 'spose
9. Tapered or flanged rear axle Tapered
10. Underseat or rear mounted fuel tank underseat
11. Hood mounted reflectors, front fender mounted markers, no markers / hood reflectors no markers/hood reflectors
13. Single / Dual stick transfer case twin stick
16. Bow sockets on rear body corners Yup

x2. The "month" on my sticker was undecipherable. I knew it read either "JUN" or "JUL", but couldn't tell which. Randy was able to confirm almost instantly that it was JUN.

It worked here too. Informed me that mine is a '61, not a '60 like I was told. Also was able to find the month of manufacture. Great group of people here, awesome support. The .pdf has a wealth of knowledge in it.

Mine is 8305017 362687 and is registered as a 1970. but according to yall, it was manufactured in October of '69

:v6: badges on sides look original.
Tag on right side of fire wall says "The manufacturer certifieds that this vehicle conforms to the applicable safety standards established under the national traffic and motor vehicle act of 1966".
Was this a generic tag used until an updated safety standard was released?
Is there difference in the engine mounting horns between the V6and 4cyl?

OK , Mine has a dash board tag Sept 70 vin 8305 017 367279

V6 engine
3 speed, with 4x4 and you don't have to lock the hubs.
I'm attempting to find out which distributor cap to buy. The one on it is not cliped down tight and I think it needs a new one. It uses clips rather than screws.
I also need to know just about everything else.....LOL

The Jeep is titled as a 1971. and looks pretty much stock.

Thanks for postin your info and welcome to ECJ5. your vin places your CJ very close to the beginning of the 71 model year. the list is down to about 500 Jeeps between yours and the last 70 listed.

The title also says make: Universal.....so is that Kizer or AMC or ....?
